Development Manager

Job Summary:

The Development Manager leads the design, implementation and monitoring of all efforts to leverage donations of financial, human, and in-kind resources in support of the IRC in Washington’s missions. In addition to a focus on major donor relations and solicitation, they lead the Resource Development Team in solicitation of corporate and foundation funders, proposal writing, in-kind solicitation and distribution, volunteer recruitment and management, grants tracking and reporting, and special events. The Development Manager supervises a team of employees as well as several interns and volunteers. As a member of the IRC in Washington’s senior management team, the Development Manager shares responsibility for providing effective oversight over office operations and responsible stewardship of resources.

Major Responsibilities:

Resource development

·Meet or exceed yearly fundraising goals for the IRC in Washington with the expectation that each year’s goals will increase over the previous year

·Develop annual fundraising plans for the IRC in Washington with specific and measurable goals and objectives for development of restricted and unrestricted funds

·Implement multi-office strategies linked to each office’s fundraising plans to solicit new sources of unrestricted and private cash funding through the submission of proposals and other requests for funding

·Research private funding opportunities and serve as the focal person for the development of new proposals and donor cultivation in Washington

·Oversee the preparation of letters of inquiry, proposals, budgets and reports to local Washington foundations and other potential donors to solicit cash funds for programs in collaboration with program staff and the Resource Development team

·Identify, cultivate, and sustain individual donors through mailings, face-to-face donor cultivation meetings, community engagement opportunities, and other creative mechanisms in Washington

·In conjunction with the Operations team, oversee distribution of donated in-kind goods to clients, ensuring efficient, productive service to clients

·Ensure the Resource Development team works effectively with relevant departments to meet cash and in-kind matching requirements and maintains appropriate documentation for all resource development including cash donations, in-kind donations, and volunteer/intern hours

·Organize annual fundraisers, donor appeals and other special events as applicable for both Washington offices

Community, volunteer, and donor relations

·Ensure that all external written and verbal communications are accurate, professionally written, and donor-centric

·Ensure that the IRC in Washington maintain an active, effective, professionally managed volunteer and intern program and continually recruits high quality volunteers and interns to serve clients and programs

·Coordinate with colleagues to produce and distribute communications materials, including brochures, monthly newsletters, social media and website updates

·Conduct outreach and networking activities to recruit and educate potential donors, family sponsors, volunteers, interns, and other constituents

·Facilitating and organizing virtual and in-person donor events;

·Raise awareness about the IRC and represent the office at meetings, seminars and forums, and support colleagues in doing the same.

Grants management

·In partnership with Program Managers and Program Leads successfully increase the total grant funding in dollar amounts annually in Washington

·In conjunction with the Development Team, oversee the submission of all grants with the expectation of annual increases in total number of grants and total funding amounts submitted

·In conjunction with the Development Team, maintain a grants management tracking and donor tracking system regularly updated with accurate data

·In conjunction with the Development Team, develop and ensure the effective maintenance of contract and grant files for each funded program with consistent documentation standards

·In conjunction with the Development Team, work closely with program and operations staff to prepare interim and final reports to grantors

·Liaise with the headquarters grants and business development staff on all new contracts, grants, and sub-grants

General management

·Recruit, hire, train, and supervise staff, interns, and volunteers.Meet consistently with the development team to plan and review team objectives and support team members in meeting their individual performance and development goals.Foster an inclusive and collaborative work environment.

·Utilize IRC’s People Management Standards including regular team and individual meetings, clear expectations, effective feedback, and responsive support

·Provide mentorship and support to staff around professional development, workload management, trauma-informed approach, and staff wellness

·Cultivate an environment of teamwork through regular program meetings and on-going training

·Conduct mid-year and annual performance management evaluations

·Maintain ongoing communication with the Executive Director on status of resource development initiatives and provide timely reports on management issues and concerns

Leadership:

·Represent IRC with partner organizations, funders, and other community stakeholders

·In conjunction with other Managers take ownership of relevant strategic objectives, provide guidance and oversight to the appropriate objectives in the IRC Seattle Strategic Action Plan

·Act as a member of IRC Seattle Senior Management Team

·Work with IRC Seattle Senior Management Team, program leads and other staff, and ensure a good working relationship with all internal departments/programs in the design and coordination of new programming, provision of services, development activities, public relations materials, events and media communications

·Participate in all staff meetings, staff development activities, and fully engage as a member of the IRC Seattle team

·Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency

·Other duties as assigned by the IRC Executive Director

Job Requirements:

·Relevant degree or equivalent professional work experience

·Minimum of five (5) years prior experience with fundraising, public relations, proposal writing, volunteer coordination and other related duties in the non-profit sector

·Prior people management experience strongly preferred

·Experience providing support to staff and understanding of staff well-being, managing workload, professional boundaries, setting clear expectations, and providing direct feedback

·Outstanding organizational, leadership and team-building skills

·Proven record of foundation and donor relations and the successful development of grant proposals

·Proven ability to conduct research through various sources to target and locate potential sources of funding

·Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with grantors, volunteers, partner agencies, government officials, community members, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds and cultures on all levels

·Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (especially Word, Excel, Outlook) and internet research

·Proven experience with Salesforce required

·Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural environment

Working Environment:
