Engagement Advisor to the President (f/m/d)

 

Location: Innsbruck or Vienna/Austria

SOS Children’s Villages International is the umbrella organisation for the global federation of SOS Children’s Villages. As a non-governmental social development organization, we help children without parental care and families in difficult living conditions through services in care, education, health and emergency relief, and we advocate for children’s rights. We work in 136 countries and territories, reaching over one million children, young people, families and caregivers each year.

 

Mission of the Office of the President

The office of the President actively supports and advises the President and the International Senate to promote, establish and nurture good, strong and cohesive governance across the Federation. In addition, the Office of the President supports the President and Senate in their high-level representation by making the brand more visible at various important policy-oriented places to advance children’s rights worldwide. The office of the President supports scaling up advocacy and our external impact, as well as strengthening internal and external positioning of the President / Governance. 

 

Purpose of the position

Employees of the Office of the President, excluding the President and Vice-President, are part of the General Secretariat (SOS Children’s Villages International). In their assigned roles, they report to and support the President regarding the President´s non-executive responsibilities and in his role as the supervisor and chairperson of the International Senate.

The Engagement Advisor supports the President and the Vice-President in their engagement and communication with internal and external audiences. The advisor will initiate and facilitate formal representations with head of governments, ministers, multilateral institutions and childcare movement platforms. S/he will set-up a stakeholder-management system to ensure effective engagements via various platforms and communication channels in close co-operation with the International Office unit Communication & Brand. S/he will develop a strategy and monitor implementation to promote trust, inclusiveness and transparency for volunteers and co-workers across the Federation to work together to achieving the SOS-mission and the strategy 2030

 

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Analyse opportunities for strategic and tactical engagements for effective and significant outreach and influence (e.g. Davos, global parliamentary platforms, childcare movement alliances etc.)
  • Enhance engagement with existing and new internal and external key-stakeholders (Governance)
  • Facilitate and position the President formally to represent the Federation, its mission and model to head of states and governments, government ministers, highest level at the United Nations, multilateral institutions, key constituents, like-minded organisations and networks
  • Support the President to deliver his promise of increasing trust, inclusiveness and transparency. Additionally, s/he will support the President topic-wise to inform the Federation on the agenda, decision outcomes and federal priorities to all members.
  • Ensure tailor-made positioning
  • Support the President in having evidence-based and accurate key-KPIs and information on internal trends and patterns as well as major emerging phenomena externally

 

Requirements

  • University degree in international relations, economics and/or communication
  • Minimum of 7- 10 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: strategic stakeholder management, communication and/or engagement
  • Relevant experience in an international environment and multicultural setting, possibly in an INGO or international governmental organisation
  • Profound knowledge across the Federation would represent an asset
  • Excellent English language skills
  • French or Spanish language skills would be an asset
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong planning and organizing skills
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment in national and local contexts
  • High level of integrity and commitment to confidentiality, including the ability to work with highly sensitive data
  • Awareness and strong commitment to SOS Children’s Villages organisational values: Commitment, Trust, Courage and Accountability
  • Openness to work from Austria as work location
