Transportation Assistant

Job Overview: The Afghan Placement and Assistance (APA) Program is a new program being implemented at the International Rescue Committee to assist individuals from Afghanistan who are arriving in the United States. The Transportation Assistant will provide and coordinate transportation for arriving families and ensure that they receive the necessary living items for their initial stay in the US by coordinating and transporting supply and furniture items to new arrivals.  

Major Responsibilities: 

• Provide and coordinate transportation for new arrivals in conjunction with case work assistants from the airport to temporary and permanent housing 

• Support transportation needs to initial appointments and in urgent situations

• Provide transportation and support to the Logistics and Housing Assistants for apartment setups

• Coordinate with the Development team in interacting with community donors and prospective donors to raise in-kind items to support new arrivals  

• Answer questions and provide information to arrivals on public transportation in the local area

• Use personal, insured vehicle, IRC vehicles and/or public transportation (where available) to travel and transport clients and materials

• Other duties as assigned.
