Your team

Within the Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre , the "Technical Systems" service is responsible for the maintenance, development and improvement of software products which support MUAC in achieving its safety and capacity targets and sustain the growing air traffic demand. It provides also resources to various projects in its area of expertise and maintains technical hardware. 

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Contribute to the development of the short and medium-term technical strategy; coordinate with product experts and stakeholders on how to translate the strategy into detailed change proposals.
  • Provide solutions for the improvement of the quality of the Maastricht Data Processing and Display System (MADAP) and its maintainability.
  • Participate to complex projects; analyse user requirements, translate them into concrete software and system requirements.
  • Develop, as part of a team, the overall architecture and define efficient solutions that address the requirements.
  • Prepare discussions and negotiations with external suppliers on technical requirements and standards, and follow-up on agreed actions.
  • Provide reporting and compliance management in line with applicable regulations/standards, draft and maintain relevant system level documentation such as requirement specifications, interface descriptions, and design documentation.
  • Analyse change proposals in order to:
    • identify the impact on system and subsystem level requirements,
    • identify the impact on failure modes and effects,
    • support and ensure a coherent implementation of technical changes in line with the Architectural Roadmap and the Architectural Design Constraints/Principles.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Completed university studies of at least 4 years (e.g. Master’s degree) in a relevant domain (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, etc.).
  • A minimum of 1-year relevant professional experience as System Level Engineer in the ATM domain, or minimum 2-years relevant professional experience in a similar position in a different domain.
  • Experience with system architecture preferably as the interface between operational experts and system developers.
  • Practical experience in system engineering and analysis.
  • The following would be an asset:
    • Experience with Service-Oriented Architecture & Middleware to build such architectures; message brokers, API integration, data distribution, etc.
    • Good understanding of computer network technologies and communication protocols.
    • Experience with Air Traffic Management systems (flight data processing, surveillance data processing, SWIM technical infrastructure, etc.)
  • Technical drafting skills (English).

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be a proficient user of English at level C1/C2.

Useful information

  • Applications will be accepted from nationals of EUROCONTROL Member States only.
  • The selected candidate will be offered a contract of 3 Year (s) pursuant to the provisions of the Conditions of Employment of Contract Staff at EUROCONTROL. The contract may be renewed. Before being established in the post, he/she will be requested to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.
  • The successful candidate shall be appointed in principle at the basic grade of the advertised grades.
  • In case of reserve list: Suitable candidates, however not selected to fill the post, will be placed on a reserve list for similar functions. The period of validity of reserve list is 1 year from the closing date of applications.
