Your team

Within the Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre , the ATM Development Service is responsible for developing the operational concept and the definition of operational and technical requirements. It includes also the activities related to airspace design and network planning.

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Capture, analyse and evaluate business requirements from operational users to improve systems and take into account the impact of such changes.
  • Serve as a liaison between operational users and service providers (internal and external), and work closely with key players (e.g. architects, project managers, developers, release managers, etc.) to ensure solutions meet agreed requirements and operational strategy.
  • Contribute to the elaboration of proposals and technical improvements to anticipate future needs of customers and ensure that such system changes meet the requirements of current and future operations.
  • Draft the list of priority requirements and system changes together with the product owner(s).
  • Write technical working documents as support for the operational users.
  • Contribute to the planning and coordination of releases.
  • Analyse product incidents and report on findings.
  • Keep abreast of innovations in the respective field and operational tools, and contribute to working groups, meetings, projects, etc. as required.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • University studies of at least 4 years (e.g. Master’s degree) in a relevant domain (e.g. Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, etc.) or professional training of an equivalent level (ATCO license).
  • A minimum of 3 years’ relevant professional experience with ATM systems and infrastructure, and in system support (dealing with users) in a production environment. 
  • Knowledge of ATM System architecture(s), constituents, and interfaces.
  • Technical drafting skills (English) to write functional specifications.
  • The following would be an advantage:
    • Experience with lower airspace functions (e.g. Arrival Manager Systems, Tower and/or Approach operations, electronic flight strip systems, etc.).
    • Experience in system integration and testing.
    • Experience in working on configuration and adaptation data related matters of complex air traffic management systems (e.g. Flight Data Processing Systems).
    • Programming experience.

  • The selected candidate will be offered a contract of 3 Year (s) pursuant to the provisions of the Conditions of Employment of Contract Staff at EUROCONTROL. The contract may be renewed. Before being established in the post, he/she will be requested to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.
  • The successful candidate shall be appointed in principle at the basic grade of the advertised grades.
  • In case of reserve list: Suitable candidates, however not selected to fill the post, will be placed on a reserve list for similar functions. The period of validity of reserve list is 1 year from the closing date of applications.
