Description

If successfully recruited to this position, you will initially report to the Biomass Project Manager for all technical and programmatic matters. Upon delivery of the SAR instrument to the industrial Prime Contractor, you will be reallocated to the Biomass System and Mission Performance Section.

Duties

  • Managing and monitoring all aspects of the instrument specification, design, implementation and testing, ensuring full compliance is maintained (and demonstrated) with Biomass requirements;
  • Monitoring the industrial progress, reviewing the manufacturing and AIT of the instrument PFM hardware ensuring they remain consistent with Biomass requirements;
  • Coordinating specialist support to ensure timely delivery of the instrument PFM hardware and problem resolution throughout all project phases until IOCR;
  • Supporting NCR and RFD/RFW processing and resolution; Supporting instrument and satellite AIV activities;
  • Providing instrument hardware and performance expertise to system performance engineering; Analysing mission performance impacts resulting from deviations discovered during instrument or system development and test;
  • Supporting the identification and resolution of discrepancies between the instrument hardware and simulators and models;
  • Ensuring that the operability of the instrument is fully compatible with the overall Biomass satellite operations, observability and availability requirements;
  • Supporting the planning, organisation and execution of the in-orbit commissioning Phase E1; Monitoring the definition and execution of the instrument calibration;
  • Participating in instrument and satellite project reviews;
  • Providing early warning of potential problems, monitoring risks in the instrument development and instrument/satellite AIV campaign and proposing relevant mitigation actions;

 

You will be supported by experts from the Biomass team and from ESA’s Technical Directorate, as appropriate, and will be expected to cooperate closely with other members of the Biomass Project Team.

Technical competencies

Excellent knowledge of SAR technology and instrumentation, in particular in P-band
Good knowledge and experience in space based SAR systems development (subsystems, architecture, interfaces and performance) including in-orbit commissioning and calibration
Minimum of 7 year’s experience in relevant C/D Project Phases
Experience in digital hardware and backend SAR electronics

Education

A Master’s degree in an engineering discipline is required.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
