Job Overview:The Career Development Coordinator is responsible for program oversight and service delivery for the Career Development, Financial Empowerment, and Youth Programs including staff supervision, with the goal of assisting refugee clients to move beyond entry-level jobs and gain employment in their professional field. Specifically, the Career Development Coordinator ensures career counseling, job search assistance, enrollment in post-secondary and certification programs, networking opportunities, and coordinating additional services tailored to individual client needs.

Major Responsibilities:

Client services and outcomes oversight

·Conduct outreach campaigns and liaise with IRC R&P, Economic Empowerment, Immigration and Anti-Trafficking staff for potential client referrals

·Create and conduct a thorough and equal assessment of applicants

·Oversee a caseload of approximately 75 Career Development Program clients each year, ensuring provision of one-on-one career counseling; this includes service planning, goal setting, resource mapping, supporting job search activities, and referrals to employer contacts

·Develop and enhance curricula and offerings for career sector tracks, and modify on an ongoing basis

·Implement technical assessments to gauge client strengths, weaknesses, and proficiencies

·Ensure trainings are resulting in job placements for clients through dedicated job development including developing employer relationships, referring applicable clients, and assisting in targeted interview preparation

·Document client participation and progress, adhering to grant requirements

·Collaborate with the IRC Economic Empowerment team to ensure that clients are receiving the comprehensive services they need to achieve their goals, and ensure that funder-mandated and agency goals are met

·Ensure accurate and timely reporting of career development services data to donors and all relevant parties

·Use ETO as assigned to track client services, outcomes, and metrics; develop supportive tracking systems for auxiliary information

Supervision

·Provide positive supervision to Career Development, Financial Empowerment, and Youth Programs staff, including daily administration, support and performance reviews

·Work with Volunteer and Donations Coordinator to recruit skilled volunteers, community members, and employer contacts to train clients through workshops and trainings on topics such as professional speaking, email correspondence, and interviewing

·Supervise skilled volunteers, tasked with supporting program goals through goal setting, resource mapping, cultural instruction, market research, administrative tasks, and other activities as needed

External partnerships

·Reach out and develop contacts with training services in all tracks offered, securing discounts for enrollment fees and streamlining the application process and ensuring strong placement outcomes

·Research career industries and local resources to create accessible career pathways for program participants that will reach program outcomes and be applicable to the target population

·Develop and nurture partnerships, serve as point of contact for educational institutions, vocational institutions, and local employers

·Represent the career development, financial empowerment, and youth programs within the IRC network, in conferences, working groups, communities of practice calls, sharing the creation of client success stories, and other opportunities when available

·Liaise with IRC Economic Empowerment and Youth/Education Technical Advisors to ensure effective program delivery by utilizing available resources and best practice models within the IRC field office network

General Administration

  • Work with Site Director and Development team to identify and apply for new funding opportunities.
  • Provide narrative and outcome statistics for reports to IRC and funders
  • Oversee program expenses compared with grant budgets; responsible with Site Director for utilizing funding appropriately.
  • Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engage as a member of the team
  • Comply with all policies, procedures and protocols of the agency
  • Other related duties as assigned

Position directly supervises: Financial Empowerment Specialist, Career Development Specialist, Youth Connections Coaches, Interns and volunteersInternal and/or external contacts: Coordinates regularly with San Jose Employment team and local partners, Development Director

Job Requirements:

·Undergraduate degree required.

·3 years’ experience working in employment and workforce programs required.

·1-3 years’ experience with client counseling, case management, or coaching strongly preferred.

·Multi-cultural experience and demonstrated ability to communicate well with people of varied backgrounds required

·Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation creation

·Proven ability to take initiative, creatively problem solve and lead with versatility in a fast-paced work environment

·Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required

·Experience using data and fiscal tracking systems strongly preferred

·Understanding of the job market in professional sectors in San Jose

·Flexible availability necessary

·Proficiency in Dari, Farsi, Pashto, Arabic, Spanish, Tigrinya or Amharic preferred.
