Background

The International Renewable Energy Agency is an inter-governmental organisation headquartered in Abu Dhabi, mandated to promote the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy in the pursuit of sustainable development, energy access, energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity. IRENA’s mission is to play a leading role in the ongoing transformation of the global energy systems as a centre of excellence for knowledge and innovation, a global voice of renewable energy, a network hub for all stakeholders and a source of advice and support for countries. At present, IRENA has 166 Members (165 States and the European Union) that acceded to its Statute, and 18 additional States in the process of accession and actively engaged.

 

IRENA Innovation and Technology Centre (IITC) is responsible for the provision of the means for an accelerated renewable energy technology uptake, considering national conditions of resource endowment, social and economic frameworks. In accordance with the IRENA Statute, activities in this field include analysis of renewable energy technology policies; dissemination of information and increased awareness; technologies and equipment overview and assessment of success-failure factors; improved pertinent knowledge and technology transfer, and joint RD&D and provision of information about the development and deployment of national and international technical standards in relation to renewable energy.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of Director IITC, the Associate Programme Officer will be responsible for the following duties\: 

  • Contribute to the structure and preparation of presentations on programmatic topics;
  • Provide substantive support to programmes in preparing various documents, such as reports and briefs; 
  • Assist in institutional reporting on work programmes and progress reports; including assisting in the preparation of Council and Assembly documents, and other management documents; 
  • Contributes to the preparation of speeches for senior management; 
  • Provide analytical support on technical matters; 
  • Prepare minutes for divisional meetings; 
  • Provide editorial and document design support to programmatic staff 
  • Undertake outreach activities, such as assisting with preparation and conducting of programmatic workshops and events 
  • Assist in external communication; 
  • Perform other tasks as required.

Qualifications

 

Education\: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. 

Experience/Skills\: A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in preparing programme presentations, drafting and editing of reports, designing publications and organising of international events is required. Experience of working in an international and intergovernmental organisation is required. Knowledge in renewable energy technology and solutions is required. 

 

Languages\: Excellent command of written and spoken English is a must. Knowledge of German would be an advantage. Knowledge of other UN languages would be an asset. 

 

IRENA reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a lower level than the advertised level of the post.
