What will you do?

 

  • Assist the Nutrition Coordination Cluster (NCC) in the establishment and maintenance of strong humanitarian coordination mechanisms at the national and sub-national level to support a well-coordinated and strategic emergency nutrition response while also considering early recovery and prevention interventions.
  • Co-lead the Nutrition cluster planning and strategy development including timely and quality need assessments/analysis, and nutrition response action plans incorporated into the overall Humanitarian Response Plan.
  • Act as the cluster lead in the absence of the cluster coordinator, including cluster management, representation, and general cluster coordination-related duties.
  • Provide strategic advice and support short to long term efforts to strengthen the capacity of all nutrition partners.
  • Ensure full integration of cross-cutting issues such as human rights, HIV, age, gender and environment, utilizing participatory and community-based approaches in all nutrition programming.
  • Ensure a strong multi-sectoral response through fostering effective links with other clusters especially Health,WASH,Food Security, and Education clusters.
  • Represent the interests of the nutrition cluster in discussions with the Humanitarian Coordinator on prioritization, resource mobilization and advocacy.
  • Ensure that NCC response are in line with existing nutrition policy guidance, technical standards, local authorities’ policies and relevant commitments that the concerned authorities have undertaken under international human rights law.
  • Support Monitoring and Evaluation by identifying ways to improve the quality and timeliness of information collection, analysis and reporting.
  • Co-lead for advocacy and resource mobilization through identifying core advocacy issues and resource requirements of the Nutrition cluster and contribute to advocacy initiatives of the Humanitarian Coordinator and other actors.
  • Build capacity of WFP staff, in particular the WFP national Nutrition Cluster Officer to take over core responsibilities of a deputy cluster coordinator role through mentoring and on-the-job training. 
  • Enhance WFP’s leadership status and profile on nutrition through active stakeholder engagement and ensuring that WFP mandate is systematically represented.
  • Provide strategic advice and support to WFP nutrition programme to enhance programme effectiveness, including design and operational planning, relationship with the Government at both federal and state level, partners’ capacity support, programme coverage and reporting.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Education: University degree, preferably at the advanced level, in Nutrition, International Health & Nutrition, Public Health & Nutrition Policy and Management, Family Health & Nutrition, Food Security, Food Technology or other related fields.

 

Experience: At least eight years of postgraduate progressively responsible professional experience in nutrition, public health management, development projects, emergency assistance, and/or operational aspects of national, bilateral, or multilateral food assistance. 

 

Knowledge: 

  • Experience in survey methodologies, nutrition assessment and relevant data analysis.
  • Experience in working within the Nutrition Cluster Coordinator and/or emergency interagency coordination role.
  • Food security and multisector programme knowledge and experience are desirable.
  • Knowledge of sound research methods and monitoring and evaluation standards.
  • Understanding of donor policies, strategies, and programme priorities.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant field of specialization (nutrition, public health, development or other) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative health/nutrition survey techniques is an added value Hands-on experience in International NGOs is an added advantage.
