This position is primarily responsible for confirmation and settlement of all Investment transactions, reconciliation of daily investment transactions and the reconciliation of the Custody Account holdings on a monthly basis.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Confirmation and settlement of Investment transactions
- Reconciliation of Custodian Account with Northern Trust
- Enter new or amend settlement instructions in Atlas
- Analyze and communicate on the returned/rejected payments disbursed from HQ bank accounts
- Act as back up to Treasury Associate
- Maintain confirmation and settlement data in Atlas and verify the accuracy of transaction data input by the Investment Officers.
- Reconcile daily investment transactions and resolve settlement failures
- Process all confirmation and settlement data using the Northern Trust Passport application, ATLAS and SWIFT.
- Conduct the monthly Northern Trust custody account reconciliation process and present report to the Management.
- Follow up for any discrepancy, value adjustments and/or non-settlement.
- Ensure that there are settlement instructions for all investment transactions
- Ensure all settlement instructions of all counterparties for all authorized cash payments and transfers are entered in Atlas.
- Resolve discrepancies with any messages / instructions.
- Ensure accurate and complete instruction for settlements via FGT or via pay-cycle EFT payments using the Pay cycle simulator query.
- Familiar with different types of SWIFT messages to be sent out to the counterparties as confirmation of the trades done by Investment Unit.

- Ability to perform a broad range of specialized activities related to treasury management, maintaining Treasury transactions (including deals and bank transfers) and cash forecasting.
- Sound Knowledge of UNDP Financial Regulations and Rules and UNDP Finance policies and procedures in POPP.

Required Skills and Experience
- Secondary Education specialize certification in Accounting and/or Finance.
- University degree in Finance, Business Administration or Accounting desirable, but it is not a requirement.
- Part-qualified accountants from an internationally recognized institute of accountancy or with treasury professional certification (e.g., CTP) will have a distinct advantage.
- Long-listed candidates will be required to undergo the UNDP Accountancy and Finance Test, including Treasury modules.
- Minimum 6 years of progressive experiences in banking or treasury operations related functions; prior finance and accounting experience as asset.
- Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages and advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems.
- Experience with ERP financials (preferably PeopleSoft) desirable, in particular the Banking and Account Payable Modules.
- Extended specialized experience in SWIFT operations’ knowledge of UNDP ATLAS Accounts Receivable module and back office settlement processes an advantage.
- Knowledge of IPSAS and/or IFRS required.
- Fluency in written and spoken English required.
- Decisions are made regarding individual work priorities within the content of overall assignment, which is highly structured
- Mistakes on effecting payments may result in delayed, failed trades and loss of investment income, penalties by banks and counterparties and a negative impact on the UNDP’s reputation.
- Recommendations primarily relate to work processing priorities and approach
- Correct recommendations may allow the unit to meet deadlines set by the CHIPS and FEDWIRE clearing systems as well as help to attain unit goals and benchmarks.
- Errors directly affect the accurate provision of services and the credibility of the work processes of the section
- Mistakes in confirming or settling transactions may result in delayed, failed trades and loss of investment income, penalties by banks and counterparties and a negative impact on UNDP’s reputation.
