The United Nations World Food Programme is the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.  We are the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change.

Aiming to feed 18.2 million of the most vulnerable people with food assistance, WFP’s emergency response in Yemen is the agency’s largest anywhere in the world. WFP food assistance also provides School Meals to 2.4 million primary school children and Nutrition support to 1.8 million children/pregnant women and girls.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Job holders typically report to Programme Policy Officer or Monitoring and Evaluation Officer. The reporting lines may change depending on the size of the office. At this level work is carried out under minimum supervision. Job holders are expected to produce organized and accurate technical work and reports. They may provide guidance on standard practices to other staff and counterparts in their area of work.

JOB PURPOSE

To perform monitoring activities within a specific coverage area and provide reports to support the effective delivery of assistance packages

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area.

Language: Fluent (level C) English and Arabic in both oral and written communication.

Experience: Five years’ work experience in monitoring and data management (data collection tools, monitoring plans, data verification, and analysis) preferably in humanitarian assistance programmes.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Provide technical support and assist in the monitoring of various activities and processes within the specific area of work supporting alignment with wider programme policies and guidelines.

2. Provide specialized project monitoring support to specific and/or defined programmes to ensure that the various activities are monitored within the established targets following WFP’s policies and procedures.

3. Within the specific area of responsibility, prepare a range of monitoring reports and data analysis (e.g. beneficiary satisfaction, project indicator targets (output, outcome and process) performance etc) and highlight trends/issues ensuring deliverables adhere to corporate standards and quality control.

4.  Liaise with internal counterparts to support effective collaboration, and monitoring of ongoing project activities.

5. Coordinate and communicate with local partners, agencies, NGOs and government institutions to perform accurate food security analyses and to ensure efficient delivery of food assistance.

6. Support the capacity building of WFP staff, cooperating partners and national government within the specific technical area of programme monitoring.

7. Oversee and/or review the work of field monitoring staff, providing practical advice and guidance, to contribute to delivering objectives to agreed standards and deadlines.

8. Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure WFP is able to quickly respond and deploy needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Has worked with technical teams (i.e. Nutrition, VAM, SMP, Resilience/Livelihood etc.).
  • Has practical experience in programme implementation and in programme monitoring.
  • General knowledge of WFP monitoring and evaluation systems and standards.
  • Has observed or assisted with policy discussions.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. WFP staff who are still under probation period are not eligible to apply for another FT position.
