Your team

Within the Directorate European Civil-Military Aviation , the "Network Management" service delivers the Agency contribution to the SESAR Work Programme. Its scope covers all Agency research and development activities related to the evolution of the Network Management function and the Flight/Wing Operations Centres.

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Contribute to the capture of stakeholders' needs, high-level validation objectives, key performance areas and validation techniques.
  • Contribute to validation activities, in particular determine the validation needs of exercises, produce validation plans, prepare required material – performing testing and verification.
  • Contribute to the definition of requirements for the configuration, operation and evolution of validation platforms.
  • Perform specific assessments through analytical modelling, data analysis and fast-time simulation.
  • Contribute to post-experiment analysis work and to the development of validation reports (i.e. performance assessments, cost-benefit analyses).
  • Develop and maintain effective networking with relevant actors and industry partners.
  • Lead/or participate to projects, working groups and studies.
  • Carry out any other tasks in line with the main purpose of the job.

Depending on the previous experience and technical competencies, the role may include also the following or other additional responsibilities:

  • Mentor and support the more junior validation practitioners.
  • Delegate appropriate tasks to more junior validation practitioners and monitor the progress to ensure the successful completion of validation projects.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

 

  • Completed university studies of 4 years. A diploma in science, engineering, applied mathematics coupled with an Aviation/Air Traffic Management would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant working experience.
  • Experience in validation activities (i.e. validation plan design, execution of exercises and experiments, use of validation tools, production of validation reports, etc.).
  • Experience or knowledge in ATM Research & Development, data analytics, statistical analysis, modelling,  algorithm design and software development/scripting.
  • Knowledge of Air Traffic Management, specifically Network Management Operations (Airspace Management and ATFCM).
  • Knowledge of validation methodology (e.g. E-OCVM) and experimental design.
  • As an asset:

o    Understanding of SESAR Concept of Operations, in particular for Network Operations, airspace management, integration of airspace users and airports.
o    Knowledge of machine learning techniques and toolkits.
o    Technical drafting skills

  • The role with additional responsibilities also requires:
    •    Experience in leading validation projects.

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1/C2. The selected candidate will be required to become at least a basic user of French at level A1/A2 before the end of the probation period.
    The levels relate to the Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

Useful information

  • Applications will be accepted from nationals of EUROCONTROL Member States only.
  • The selected candidate will be offered a contract of 3 Year (s) pursuant to the provisions of the Conditions of Employment of Contract Staff at EUROCONTROL. The contract may be renewed. Before being established in the post, he/she will be requested to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.
  • The successful candidate shall be appointed in principle at the basic grade of the advertised grades.
  • In case of reserve list: Suitable candidates, however not selected to fill the post, will be placed on a reserve list for similar functions. The period of validity of reserve list is 1 year from the closing date of applications.
