Your team

Within the Directorate European Civil-Military Aviation , the Drones Service contributes to the development of RPAS (remotely piloted aircraft systems) and their integration into Air Traffic Management (ATM) while maintaining ATM safety.

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Contribute to UAS activities and support EUROCONTROL Member States with a methodology in deploying and integrating UAS.
  • Conduct air space assessments and produce recommendations to Member States as part of their U-Space deployment while ensuring safety and societal requirements.
  • Support the Agency contribution to deployment and research projects (e.g. SESAR), working in partnership with external industry stakeholders.
  • Support the evolution of the UAS Safety Management System to cope with emerging risk and safety assessment methods within the UAS regulatory framework.
  • Lead and/or contribute to meetings and working groups as required, and produce reports, presentations, etc.
  • Collaborate closely on these activities with internal relevant parties and external stakeholders.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Completed university degree of at least 4 years.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant working experience.
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas:

o    UAS ATM integration
o    UAS R&D
o    U-space/UTM
o    UAS integration challenges

  • Understanding of Air Traffic Management and Air Navigation Services.
  • Experience or knowledge in UAS safety and risk assessment & methods (e.g. SORA, MEDUSA) would be an asset.
  • Knowledge in the domains of ATM, CNS or UAS issues at European level would be an asset.
  • Technical drafting skills in English.

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English (C1/C2). Candidates will be required to basic users of French at level A1/A2 before the end of the probation period. The levels relate to the Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

  • The selected candidate will be offered a contract of 3 Year (s) pursuant to the provisions of the Conditions of Employment of Contract Staff at EUROCONTROL. The contract may be renewed. Before being established in the post, he/she will be requested to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.
  • The successful candidate shall be appointed in principle at the basic grade of the advertised grades.
  • In case of reserve list: Suitable candidates, however not selected to fill the post, will be placed on a reserve list for similar functions. The period of validity of reserve list is 1 year from the closing date of applications.
