Context

This position is located within the transport maintenence section in MINURSO. The maintenance unit is responsible for the repair and maintenance of a mixed fleet of 421 vehicles, which include light passenger vehicles and materials handling equipment. the UNV Vehicle Electrician/Carlog Technician reports through the Transport Workshop supervisor to the Chief Transport and the UNV Support Officer. She/he is responsible for carrying out roument also requires frequent interaction with Unit Supervisor, maintenance personnel and military personnel at Team Sites and all over the vehicles users.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the supervisor of the Transport Workshop and within delegated authority, the UN volunteer Vehicle Electrician/Carlog Technician will undertake the following duties and tasks: - Identify diagnosing and rectifying various faults on author electrical ( such as cold start systems, ABS, SRSS & Airbag systems, fuel systems, charging systems and the air conditioning systems in accordance with vehicle manufacturing standards and schedules. - Service and repair of starter motors, alternators, general purpose electrical motors, solenoids, AM/FM radios, relays, switches, circuit boards. Reading circuit diagrams and resistors, identifying electrical components such as transistors and diodes and testing computer controlled vehicle systems. - Operating standard fault finding equipment such as electrical test meters, specific to vehicle diagnostic testers, and insulation testers. - After instruction, the incumbent should be capable of servicing vehicle brake systems and steering systems and to be able to carry out basic vehicle maintenance such as changing various oils and filters on the vehicles as well as renewing and balancing tires. - Assisting with battery charging and maintaining the workshop's battery charging area. - Soldering, silver soldering and brazing. other welding capabilities will be an asset. - Assisting with identification of required spare parts and following all relevant safety procedures when repairing and fitting replacement parts. - Installing and troubleshooting the data collection computer software and hardware including modems and antennas. - Assisting in maintaining the security if the Carlog vehicle fitted unit override keys. - Programming, resetting and downloading vehicles' Carlog data and hardware. -Generating various reports including vehicle utilization reports, speed reports, fuel consumption reports, over speeding warning reports, liberty mileage invoices and other reports required. -Continuous review of main database to ensure non duplication of information and manually download vehicle movement information for the purpose of producing last 5 minutes speed graft report required for assisting in accident investigations. -Assisting with the training of other workshops personnel in Carlog fitment fault diagnosis and repair. -Perform any other tasks required.
