Mission and objectives

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leadingUN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental andnon-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for thebenefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context

The revision of this manual will contribute to the better understanding on how to conduct diaspora mappings at the global level. The manual provides users with a structured approach to understanding diaspora mappings and its relevance and how different methods can be applied for this purpose. Diasporas are agents for development and the first step to maximize their contributions is by collecting relevant data to capture their skills, characteristics, and interests. Data generated from this exercise can be utilized to make more precise policy interventions and develop more effective policies and programmes to engage the diaspora as developmental actors.

Task description

This is a short-term task. This volunteer will be in charge of formatting an IOM guidance on diaspora mapping in English. The volunteer will be expected to complete the task in two weeks. The final document shall follow IOM’s editorial practices.
