About the Climate Action Working Group
The Climate Action Working Group (CAWG) was formed in January 2020 to lead CRS’ to reduce its carbon footprint through climate action initiatives. Representatives from HQ departments and several regions committed to being active members of the CAWG. The general membership of the CAWG works together to advance the objectives defined by the group while a sub-group composes a steering committee that is responsible for discussing specific issues related to the work of the CAWG. The CA WG is supported by two Executive Leadership Team (ELT) sponsors responsible for liaising with the CRS Executive Leadership Team regarding the work of the CAWG.
Drawing on a diverse spectrum of expertise, aligning with CRS’ strategy, policies and standards, the scope of the group is to:

  • Identify initiatives and policies that will reduce CRS' carbon footprint in agency operations and programming, eventually achieving the minimum footprint possible while serving the world's poorest.

  • Recommend human and financial resources to advance initiatives to reduce CRS’ carbon footprint.

  • Determine metrics and processes to measure progress against objectives.

  • Engage staff at HQ and at the field-level to track and measure carbon footprint activities and harmonize the CAWG strategy across the agency.

Out of scope:

  • Technical oversight of programmatic climate interventions or responses (e.g. climate-smart agriculture programs, disaster risk reduction, land restoration, etc.).
  • Creating narratives for climate change communications and government policy positions.

Job Summary
The CAWG Coordinator provides support to the Steering Committee, general group members, and relevant stakeholders across the agency to advance CRS’ climate action initiatives. The Coordinator is responsible for ensuring collaboration within the CAWG and in CRS to develop, review and coordinate the implementation of the CAWG annual workplan. The incumbent will ensure that key stakeholders throughout the agency, and external stakeholders, are informed of and engaged throughout the implementation process through systematic meetings and communications. The Coordinator contributes to internal learning that will help shape and influence CRS’ climate strategies and activities.
Roles and Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the CAWG and key stakeholders to develop and implement agency-wide strategies, standards, tools and best practices in climate action initiatives.
  • Coordinate Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions study with Villanova University and liaise with researchers, CRS country program and regional point people as they collect operations data for analysis.
  • Play a principal role in designing and initiating a communication plan to ensure key stakeholders throughout the agency, and external stakeholders, are engaged in the process.
  • Serve as the principal link between the CAWG and Regional Directors, Deputy Regional Directors, Country Programs, HQ departments and relevant stakeholders. Provide continual communication and coordination to ensure information needs are being met.
  • Consolidate CAWG Annual Report for Executive Leadership Team Sponsors to present to the ELT.
  • Develop mechanisms to document and share learning that allows stakeholders to access data and information relevant to climate action initiatives, particularly success stories and actions/approaches undertaken across the agency.
  • Plan and schedule Steering Committee and Plenary meetings.
  • Ensure communication tools (e.g. Teams site; Global; etc.) are up to date.
  • Onboard and orient new CAWG members.

Basic Qualifications (BQs)
Education and Experience

  • Graduate degree in international development, international relations, public health, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of international development experience; at least five years’ experience in a developing country highly desirable.
  • Five years’ experience working in operations management (HoOPs, DRD-MQ).
  • At least 5 years management experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong management and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to motivate staff.
  • Effective at multi-tasking, establishing priorities, and providing high quality, detail-oriented products while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent relationship manager with strong interpersonal and communication skills, including in cross-cultural settings.

Required Languages Fluency in English required. Working ability in French, Arabic or Spanish preferred.
