Contract Duration

Interns are required to work full time for a period of six months (to be agreed to prior to commencement). Internship placements shall not be extended beyond six months

 

Organisational Context

The Office of the Prosecutor investigates and prosecutes genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by nationals of a State Party or on the territory of a State Party on or after 1 July 2002, the date of entry into force of the Rome Statute. It has two Prosecution Pillars, incorporating investigators, trial lawyers and analysts, and a Division of Integrated Services centralizing the spezialized support functions that provide cross-cutting support to the Office.

 

The Information, Knowledge and Evidence Management Section (IKEMS) of the Office of the Prosecutor, headed by an Information Management Coordinator reporting to the Director of Integrated Services, combines the OTP’s information, knowledge and evidence operations into one consolidated section. IKEMS aims to maintain a coordinated, flexible and operationally responsive IKEM support capacity throught the OTP, in order to support the full spectrum of OTP information and evidence operations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide support in the design, development and plan of software and features using the SaaS platform Mendix, prioritized in the OTP Modernisation Program.

 

Carry out research into technological developments and best practices in the prioritized subject-area (possible topics include, but are not limited to: Cloud, Data Analytics, API design).

 

Required Qualifications

Education:

All Candidates must have a degree or be in the final stages of their studies at a recognised university, either at bachelor or higher levels. The degree should be related to one of the following or similar areas: computing, data science or business analytics. Candidates are expected to have a very good record of academic performance.

 

Experience:

Internship placements focus on candidates in the early stages of their professional careers therefore; practical experience is not an essential prerequisite for selection. However, programming or coding experience will be considered an asset.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to adapt to multicultural and multilingual working environments.
  • Possesses good teamwork skills (listens, consults and communicates proactively).
  • High standard of computer skills.

 

Knowledge of Languages:

Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) or of a Situation language is an asset.

Remuneration

Please note that internship and visiting professional placements at the ICC are unfunded. The ICC is not able to provide participants in the Internship and Visiting Professional Programme with any remuneration, nor is it possible to provide reimbursement for expenses incurred prior, during or after the internship or visiting professional placement.

 

Applicants must therefore be able to support themselves for the entire duration of their internship or visiting professional placement.

 

Limited funding may, however, be available through the ICC’s Trust Fund for the Development of Interns and Visiting Professionals, which receives donations from States Parties and other donors.

 

If funding is available, the Human Resources Section will advertise a funded vacancy announcement in accordance with the terms of reference of the Trust Fund as agreed by the donors.

 

In order to be eligible for a funded placement, if advertised, the applicant must, among other criteria, be a national from a country that is a State Party to the Rome Statue and appears on the United Nations Statistics Division’s list of developing regions.
