BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict.Domestically, our 22 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

SCOPE OF WORK: The intern will assist resource development staff with various aspects of the English to Speakers of Other Languages tutor program. Tasks may include calling IRC clients and volunteer tutors to discuss the program, match volunteer tutors with IRC clients, facilitate the match meeting, and follow-up with the clients and tutors. Interns, if interested, may also help to plan and run an office wide intern meeting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Attend Volunteer/Intern Orientation and assist with conducting orientations as needed

•Attend a tutor training session

•Attend monthly tutor check-ins

•Assist with interviewing potential volunteer tutors

•Assistance with matching volunteer tutors with IRC clients

•Facilitating the first meeting between the volunteer tutor and client

•Other duties as assigned

•Record hours and submit completed timesheet for each month via the IRC’s online Volunteer Dashboard.
