Job Description

Welcome to the Technician Training Experience!

The TTE programme is aimed at technicians who are looking for a challenging professional experience which furthers their career.

We are looking for a technician to join us in the Cabling Services section (EL-CS), within the Electrical Engineering group, which is responsible for the installation of copper cabling in the entire CERN accelerator complex and general infrastructure.

By joining the EL- CS Section, you will actively participate in the preparation and work supervision of cabling installations for various equipment at CERN. Amongst your tasks you will be involved in the following:

• Analyse installation requirements for de-cabling worksites, involving both signal cabling and DC-power cabling for the accelerator magnets;

• Take part in defining the cable cross-section and connector specifications;

• Assist the project managers in preparing technical work files for the contractors;

• Contribute in drafting the planning for cabling works and follow up with the

contractors;

• Organize and manage worksite meetings;

• Verify the quality of the work performed by contractors;

• Verify worksites as-built documentation and update cable database;

• Organize maintenance and repair activities when required;

• Prepare work progress reports;

You will be guided to acquire the ability of dealing with installations of increasing complexity. Your ability of efficiently supporting and integrating the section team will be a key aspect of your daily work.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a place on the programme you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State (https://home.cern/about/member-states);
  • You have a Technical Diploma in Electricity or equivalent (careers.cern/ttediplomas), and no more than 4 years' relevant experience after finishing your diploma;
  • If you are currently studying, you are still eligible to apply, although you are expected to have obtained your qualification by the start of your appointment at CERN;
  • If you hold a BSc or MSc, you are not eligible. However you may be eligible for the Fellowship Programme.

You should have at least a working knowledge of English OR French.

Additional skills required for this job

  • Willingness to work on cable installations on-site (machine tunnels, galleries, experimental areas, radiation environment) for most of your time, and excellent team-working attitude;
  • A valid driving license.

  • An employment contract of one year, renewable for a second year;

  • A monthly stipend of 4585 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax);

  • Depending on your individual circumstances: an installation grant, family, child and infant allowances as well as travel expenses to and from Geneva;
  • 2,5 days of paid leave per month.
