Sovereign Risk Analyst

This position will be under the Risk Management Stream. Through rotational assignments within Risk Management Department and related business functions, the Analyst will gain in-depth experience in monitoring and analyzing developments that affect current and future potential risk.

 

About the role:

The AIIB Risk Management Department aims to enable the Bank to fulfill its mandate to promote infrastructure and other productive sectors; ensure the stability and financial continuity of the Bank through efficient capital allocation and utilization, and comprehensively manage risks and reputational consequences; and foster strong risk culture by embedding risk accountability in the Bank. 

 

The Sovereign Risk Analyst (Graduate Program) will rotate in both Risk Management Department and the Investment Operations Department throughout the two-year program. They will be responsible for assessing, monitoring and managing sovereign and country risk in accordance with AIIB’s Risk Management Framework. They will take a leading role in monitoring major developments affecting sovereign risk ratings, including preparation of regular updates to internal stakeholders and assist in assigning sovereign risk ratings and advising on the sovereign operations of AIIB. 

 

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

•           Assess economic, financial and political risks AIIB faces as a result of its lending and investing operations.

•           Lead the monitoring of major developments affecting sovereign risk ratings, including preparation of regular updates to internal stakeholders, and delivery of analysis on topical issues.

•           Provide analytical input in assigning sovereign risk ratings, including risk rating proposals to the Sovereign Rating Panel, and advising on the sovereign operations of AIIB.

•           Assist in departmental portfolio monitoring activities, data management, and ensuring that appropriate systems, procedures and guidelines are in line with best banking and peer institution practices with regard to sovereign risk management.

 

Requirements:

 •          Bachelor’s degree or higher in economics, finance and/or international relations is preferred.

•           Minimum 2-3 years of relevant professional experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 1-2 years of relevant experience with a Master’s degree, ideally gained working in a financial institution or credit rating agency with expertise in sovereign credit analysis. Familiarity with AIIB’s client economies would be an advantage.

•           Excellent quantitative skills, including ability to work with large databases and knowledge of statistical analysis.

•           Team player with ability to work across diverse teams including Investment Operations, Economics, Policy and Strategy and IT.

•           Proactive attitude, intellectually curious, creative and self-motivated.

•           Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English.
