Organizational Setting:

For more than four decades, FAO has been working with the Government of the Philippines, civil society, community-based organizations and the private sector to address challenges in the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sector. Joint efforts have included increasing sustainability in agricultural production, promoting value-adding practices, improving post-harvest management, enhancing productivity and increasing the resilience of agriculture-based livelihoods to natural disasters, climatic hazards and armed conflict.

Reporting Lines:

The National Development Communications Specialist reports to the Project Team Leader.

Technical Focus:

The project, “Technical Capacity Support to the Agri-Industrial Business Corridors (ABC)” aims to improve capacities of ABC implementers on technical, agri-business, management, and entrepreneurial skills to contribute to the improvement of agribusiness investment climate in the Philippines. Among others, it will also facilitate linkages between the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Agrarian Reform on this topic and help link agrarian reform beneficiaries’ organizations (ARBOs) to the market.

Tasks and responsibilities

The National Development Communications Specialist works in collaboration with the Mindanao Emergency Response and Preparedness Group (MERG) and will carry out the followingtasks:

  1. Develop modules on fundamental topics for the operations of agri-industrial business corridors (ABC) based on assessment findings, i.e., economic clusters/corridors, agri-industrialization, agribusiness technology incubators, agribusiness projects development and management, and national innovation strategies in agriculture;
  2. Coordinate, produce, and disseminate communication and advocacy materials, i.e., website and social media posts, infographics, videos, feature stories, in close coordination with the National Communications Specialist and Project Team Leader and in observance of corporate and branding guidelines;
  3. Assist the project team and consultants to collect and compile any relevant data and information from relevant sources as required for the work;
  4. Provide relevant inputs and content to country office publications and other communications/visibility materials and activities;
  5. Participate in relevant meetings and activities; and
  6. The incumbent shall familiarize him/herself with FAO’s corporate policies and operational guidelines to ensure mandatory coherence of all related partnership and resource mobilization related communication and information outputs
  7. The incumbent shall demonstrate a strong understanding of FAO Style in drafting documentation, without the need for continuous correction or oversight
  8. Perform other tasks that may be assigned by the FAO Representative.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree in development communications, communication arts, or other related discipline relevant to the assignment;
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven knowledge and experience in development communication/communication-for development, media, information, and communications, in the context of agriculture, rural development, food systems and value chains in the Philippines; and
  • National of the Philippines

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Language requirement: Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Filipino
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and any of the following software: Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw, Premiere Pro or After Effects,
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Proven experience in lay-outing of communication/visibility materials, photo manipulation, graphic design, photography, or videography
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to an evolving and complex humanitarian context and within multidisciplinary and different cultural background teams
