Financial Coach and Training Specialist

Scope of Work:

The financial coach and training specialist is a key member of the economic empowerment team, providing financial counseling to engage and motivate clients towards economic self-sufficiency. This person will have a strong understanding of personal finances and credit, and the ability to teach that knowledge to others. The financial coach and training specialist is responsible for assisting clients in developing budgets and financial plans, training them on different financial skill sets, and processing loan applications intended to improve their financial situations to work towards their financial goals.  

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Financial Coaching (approximately 50%)

·Provide individual financial counseling to clients using tools such as detailed financial assessments and budgets to provide strategies for saving and credit building.

·Promote client financial accountability and resiliency to help clients meet their goals in collaboration with the economic empowerment and case management teams.

·Administer consumer loan program and ensure all applications have been compiled and submitted in an accurate, timely manner.

·Record outcomes in ETO database and satisfy related reporting requirements in alignment with funder objectives. Capture client success stories.

·Provide financial trainings in individual and small group sessions

Job Readiness Training and Workshop Coordination (approximately 50%)

·Coordinate and develop financial literacy trainings for new and returning clients to meet their financial needs at different points during the resettlement process

·In collaboration with colleagues, coordinate additional training or outreach opportunities and workshops. Assess current curriculum and modify as needed.

·Teach individual and group financial literacy trainings.

·Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

·A bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited institution is strongly preferred.

·Experience with client counseling, employment services, case management or coaching required.

·Previous work experience with refugee and immigrant populations is strongly preferred.

·Demonstrated understanding of personal finances, particularly in the areas of budgeting, asset building, and credit building. Previous work experience in teaching basic financial literacy is preferred.

·Ability to effectively coach clients through the nuanced process of family budgeting, goal setting, asset and credit building.

·Computer literacy required, particularly in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

·Demonstrated ability to track and report data/outcomes in a database.

·Strong communication skills, both written and oral.

·Ability to provide financial counseling services and trainings in a culturally sensitive manner.

·Fluency in English, written and spoken. Bilingual language skills in target population’s most frequently used languages is preferred.

·Valid driver’s license, access to insured, personal vehicle and/or access to reliable transportation for travel within the local community.

Working Environment:  Standard office work environment with occasional travel within the local community supplemented by remote work.
