SCOPE:

The IRC NY Education and Learning Manager is the main representative of IRC’s education and learning focused programming, including programs for children, youth, and adults in the New York area. They oversee program development and implementation, ensure compliance of services within grants and contracts, lead program fundraising and partnership development, and represent IRC NY in local forums on education and learning issues.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

·Programmatic Leadership

oLead program design and development of monitoring and evaluation techniques

oOversee implementation of Education and Learning programs, including youth tutoring activities, the Newcomers Youth Summer Academy, Leaders in Training, Academic Coaching, ESL classes, Cultural Orientation, Career Counseling and Planning, and other adult education offerings.

oEstablish and foster relationships with local actors in education and social services for refugees

oContribute to grant and proposal writing to maintain and expand funding base

oAccountable for ensuring accurate and timely reporting of services and programmatic data to donors and all relevant parties.

oCoordinate closely with other program managers and IRC staff to ensure seamless delivery of services to clients utilizing a client-centered service model.

oReport regularly on activities and results as well as areas of concern.

oParticipate as active member of the IRC in NY’s Senior Team and relevant internal and external groups.

·Team Management

oManage a team in accordance with IRC’s People Manager Standards.

oRecruit, train, and provide programmatic guidance to program staff, interns, and volunteers.

oFacilitate communication, information sharing, and professional development.

·Financial Management

oOversee annual program budget development and develop funding allocation plans to promote efficient management and sustainability.

oEstablish systems for tracking program expenditures.

·External Relations

oCollaborate with Executive Director and Development Director to cultivate local donor relationships; contribute to grant and proposal writing to maintain and expand funding base for IRC education programs in New York.

oCollaborate with Executive Director and IRC communication staff on media initiatives, including coordinating media visit and participating in media interviews.

oRepresent the IRC NY in external forums such as public panel discussions, national and international refugee education conferences, and meetings with potential strategic partners.

oOther duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

·Bachelor’s degree required.Advanced degree in education, child-psychology, social work, or relevant field strongly preferred.

·Minimum 5 years progressive work experience in education and/or youth development programming; minimum 2 years’ experience managing programs including staff management, program development, monitoring and evaluation, and advocacy.

·Experience working with English Language Learning students essential.

·Previous fundraising and grant writing experience.

·Demonstrated ability to promote an organizational culture that reflects IRC’s core values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality.Ability to lead in a way that recognizes that IRC’s work is best accomplished through the true collaboration of individuals from many cultures with a great variety of skills and perspectives.

·Strong analytical, training, and communication skills.

·Solid diplomacy, relationship building and networking skills; ability to effectively manage internal and external relationships, including community stakeholders and donors.

·Previous financial management experience, including proven effective management of budgets.

·Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work successfully in cross-cultural environment.

·Solid organizational skills with ability effectively prioritize, manage time, and meet deadlines. Flexibility and ability to work well under pressure is essential.

·Familiarity with and knowledge of the New York Community and context essential.

·Fluency in English required.

Working Environment:

  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
