Contract: Fixed-term - One-year renewable

Duty Station/travel: Kabul, Afghanistan

Pension: USD denominated pension plan

Medical Plan: International valid medical plan valid also for staff, spouse and dependents children under 18 years

Annual leave: 30 working days per annum

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

 

This job is located in the Administration Unit of WFP Afghanistan Country Office.

 

The Job holder reports to the Administration Officer or the designate. Job holders is assigned to support coordination of transport-related services by planning and assigning the routes and schedules for other drivers, and planning the overall vehicle maintenance. 

JOB PURPOSE

 

To provide support in coordinating transport-related service. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

 

  • Plan and assign the routes and schedules for other Drivers, to support efficient transport-related services for clients. 
  • Responsible for accurate maintenance of the vehicle log books, and daily reporting to the supervisor on mechanical status to ensure efficient vehicle use and fuel consumption supporting accurate accounting and cost-efficiency. 
  • Efficiently plan and coordinate WFP armored vehicle maintenance to ensure vehicles are fully equipped with required travel authorizations and supplies, assigned equipment on board is in a good condition to support safe and efficient services. 
  • Follow established rules and regulations for field deliveries and/or in cases of an accident, and report immediately to the supervisor on any apparent problems, to seek for instructions and facilitate informative decisions on the way forward. 
  • Coordinate driver’s shifts and shuttle service.
  • Monitor requests for transport, assign drivers to the task and follow up on performance.
  • Carry out daily supervision of the drivers in the respective shift
  • Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulation are taking in case of involvement in an accident.
  • Perform other related duties as required by the supervisor.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education: Completion of secondary education with formal driver's trainings, a valid deriver's license/certification to operate assigned vehicle following local rules and regulations. 

 

Experience:

  • Five or more years of work experience as a UN Driver or working experience as driver coordinator in UN international organizations. 
  • Experience and knowledge in defensive driving and experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles and in providing transport services to the senior staff.

  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads/waterways and conditions, and security issues. 
  • Good understanding of transport services and ability to coordinate routes and schedules for other Drivers. 
  • Knowledge of safety standards and safety equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, buoyant wearable safety devices, etc.) 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to assess vehicles for mechanical fitness and skills in minor vehicle repairs.  Knowledge and ability to use radio, email, telephone and other applications. 
  • Basic skills to assist in case of emergency, knowledge of first aid basic methods. 
  • Ability to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy and tact. 

 

Desirable experiences: 

  • Has demonstrated a strong understanding of UN administrative LVT fleet management rules and regulations.
  • Comprehensive understanding and good working knowledge and working experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). Especially ability to work with Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Has vehicle mechanical knowledge and capacity to train the new staff members within area of expertise.
