UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a full-time internship within the Multimedia Content Section of the Global Communications Service (GCS) under the Division of External Relations at UNHCR Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

Established in December 1950, UNHCR is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for asylum seekers, refugees, returnees, internally displaced communities and stateless people. Every year, millions of men, women and children are forced to flee their homes to escape conflict and persecution. UNHCR currently operates in over 130 countries, using its long expertise to protect and care for millions.

Organizational context
The Multimedia Content Section is a team of storytellers ¿ including writers, editors, photographers and video producers ¿ producing, packaging and distributing multimedia content that helps UNHCR lead the narrative, generate empathy and drive action. The section also supports and advises regional bureaus and country operations to ensure a cohesive overall approach to content, and to ensure coordination and common standards of best practice. Led from Geneva, the Multimedia Content Section encompasses the photo, video and global web editing units.

The position
This position is based out of UNHCR headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland and sits within the Multimedia Content Section, as part of the Global Communications Service, reporting directly to the Head of Multimedia Content. This role focuses on day-to-day support, content production, communications and outreach. Specifically, this internship will help the incumbent:
¿ Gain unique knowledge about UNHCR¿s global role, capabilities, programs, and impact, and the role of communications and outreach in achieving UNHCR¿s mandate.
¿ Support Multimedia Content team with digital media, multi-media projects, events, exhibits and campaigns to ensure public support for refugees, stateless people and UNHCR.

Duties and responsibilities
¿ Support the Head of Multimedia Content in planning and tracking global content;
¿ Liaise between teams at HQ, Bureaux and country offices to coordinate content;
¿ Support the roll out of World Refugee Day content and the 2021 Olympics planning;
¿ Support the creation and maintenance of the Content Team SharePoint page and calendars;
¿ Monitor the impact of the content produced with the support of the Analytics team;
¿ Train on the Refugees Media content management system;
¿ Support the photo unit on photo requests, meta data input and photo uploads in Refugees Media;
¿ Conduct background research on key issues related to forced displacement.

Minimum qualifications required
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
¿ Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within one year of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO ; and
¿ Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.

NOTE: An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.

Desirable qualifications and skills
¿ Degree in Journalism, International Relations, Political Sciences or related field;
¿ Good understanding of issues related to forced displacement;
¿ Experience in project management, excellent organizational skills;
¿ Interest in digital media and communications campaigns;
¿ Excellent writing, public speaking presentation skills;
¿ Proficiency in PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Excel; social media and graphic design;
¿ Excellent communication skills both oral and in written;
¿ Fluency in English; any other language is an asset;
¿ Interest in the humanitarian cause;
¿ Excellent interpersonal skills;
¿ Diplomacy;
¿ Discretion;
¿ Meticulous attention to detail;
¿ Effective in time management.

Conditions
It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 9.00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week). The successful candidate will be either home-based or with the team in the Geneva, Switzerland. The location will be determined prior to the start of the internship, and is dependent upon the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic in both the applicant¿s home country and at the duty station.

Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
