Telecommunication System Engineer in the Telecom Systems & Techniques Section, Radio Frequency Systems Division, Electrical Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering & Quality.

You will be assigned for a period of three years as integrated support to the function of Ground Segment Engineer in the Ground Segment Section, Technologies & Products Division, Telecom Technologies, Product & Systems Department, in the Directorate of Telecommunications & Integrated Applications.

You will report to the Head of the Ground Segment Section and are responsible for managing telecommunication ground segment technology development activities.


  • Initiating, monitoring and controlling, in collaboration with the Procurement Department, the Space Systems for Safety and Security Strategic Programme Line and other relevant departments of ESA, of technology, product development and system projects for governmental satellite communication applications;
  • Reporting regularly on the progress, status, schedule and outcome of managed activities, including realistic forecasting of milestone completion dates;
  • Identifying and defining product and technology needs for future satellite communication systems and services;
  • Coordinating expert technical support provided by other ESA organisational units (e.g. Directorate of Operations, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality), as required, to ensure effective initiation and management of activities;
  • Coordination with external stakeholders as required.

A Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline is required.

Additional requirements

You have experience in satellite ground segment technology and products, system design and development. Knowledge of AI, cloud, high-performance computing, quantum technologies, security solutions would be an asset.

Direct experience of working with a commercial and governmental satellite telecommunications organisation and European industry as well as an in-depth understanding of operating within a European agency framework would be distinct advantages.

You have strong negotiation skills and contract or subcontract management experience.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
