ICRISAT is a non-profit, non-political organization that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa with a wide array of partners throughout the world. ICRISAT and its partners help empower those living in the semi-arid tropics, especially smallholder farmers, to overcome poverty, hunger, malnutrition and a degraded environment through more efficient and profitable agriculture.

The objective is to ensure efficient / effective operation and maintenance of Controlled Environment Research Facilities (CERF) and water treatment equipment. To develop and execute plans on improvement and upgrade of CERF facilities and infrastructure. This is a nationally recruited position and is a part of the RP-Asia-Farm & Engineering Services at regional headquarters in Hyderabad, India.  

ICRISAT is headquartered in Patancheru near Hyderabad, India, with two regional hubs and eight country offices in sub-Saharan Africa. ICRISAT, established in 1972, is a member of the CGIAR Consortium. For more details, see www.icrisat.org.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise the overall activities of CERF
  • To prepare daily schedules of work, supervise for proper execution and preparation of output reports.
  • Maintain all mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment for trouble free functioning
  • Implement standard operating procedures and practices to maintain CERF
  • Allocate space to the researchers for the experiments and provide all the required facilities
  • Develop and implement upgrade / improvements. Plans to suit research requirements
  • Coordinate with research team and ability to deliver on the requirements
  • Maintain records of all the CERF activities performed during each season
  • Ensure high degree of precision and accuracy in CERF operations to support the research experiments.
  • Periodic monitoring of consumables and spare parts to ensure timely completion of maintenance/repair services.
  • Ensure that all the activities are handled by team with high standards of safety and as per institutional guidelines and policies
  • Engage with external vendors for quality & timely delivery of material & services.

Competencies:

  • Exchange technical knowledge among the team for enhancing skills and simplify CERF operation / maintenance activities
  • Ability to work with research team and meet the needs of research trial requirements
  • Demonstrate good team spirit, client orientation and ensuring timely and quality delivery
  • Engage with inter-disciplinary teams in multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to adapt to longer work schedules when required to fulfill all the commitments on time with the high-quality delivery/standards
  • Knowledge of Air conditioning and HVAC systems is an added advantage

Qualification and Experience: BE/B. Tech in Electrical/ Electronics Engineering or Electronics / Instrumentation Engineering /Agricultural Engineering / Masters Degree in Agriculture.

Minimum 7 years of experience in managing Green House Facilities, Operations and Plant Growth Chambers
