As a non-governmental social development organization, we support children without parental care and families in difficult living conditions through services in care, education, health, and emergency relief, and we advocate for the rights of children and young people, in alliance with a great diversity of partners. We work in 137 countries and territories, reaching over one million children, young people, families, and caregivers each year. To support us with this important responsibility we are now looking for a committed Safety & Security Advisor 

Location: Western Ukraine

Duration: 12 months 

Mission

Reporting directly to the National Director, the Safety & Security Advisor (SSA) is responsible for overseeing the security and risk management processes for SOS Children’s Villages in Ukraine while ensuring transparency, accountability and the efficient and proper use of organizational resources.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities 

1.     Lead People

·       Provide matrix leadership and develop a network of location security focal points.

·       Serve as ultimate accountable for guard force performance.

·       Ensure adequate communication on security issues across the program locations.

·       Provide advice and respond to training needs to develop staff safety and security competencies.

 

2.     Protect the Organization

·       Train and lead location teams on developing their security plans.

·       Develop and manage national-level plans including the travel safety plan.

·       Serving on the National Management Team, provide operational input on plans and other matters under consideration of the leadership.

·       Lead the development and review of security plans and procedures including contingency and crisis response plans.

·       Monitor the reporting and data gathering of security incidents and generate analysis/reports on security trends.

·       Communicate with stakeholders on key security developments and update plans.

 

3.     Manage Empowering Relationships

·       Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key external stakeholders inside and outside Ukraine.

·       Live the humanitarian values (neutrality, impartiality, independence & humanity) in interactions with external stakeholders.

 

4.     Develop and Innovate

·       Ensure professional development and continuous awareness of developments in the security profession.

·       Seek to apply learning and other innovation to safety and security program.

 

Requirements

 

Required Qualifications:

  • University degree or relevant education in security management, peace & conflict studies, political sciences, international relations or similar.
  • Minimum 5 years working experience in the field of Security, including experience in hazardous / complex environments.
  • Very good command of English and Ukrainian or Russian
  • Good analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong integrity, emotional intelligence and communication skills.
  • Positive working attitude and ability to work under high pressure.
  • Pro-active and self-motivated to learn and acquire additional competences needed for the job.
  • Experience in working with colleagues from different backgrounds and culture.
  • Willingness to work in a volatile security environment.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Professional experience in an international NGO or similar organization.
  • Prior experience in military, police, or other similar organization.
