Your team

Within the Network Management Directorate , the "Infrastructure" Division manages the European infrastructure deployment projects and programmes and aims at making the SES digital sky a reality. It develops, organizes and provides European common services including network support services, aeronautical information services and the radio frequency function. This traineeship will take place in the Navigation Team of the CNS Unit.

Your role

PURPOSE OF THE TRAINEESHIP

The purpose of this traineeship is to support the optimization of the ground-based navigation infrastructure at European level. 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Your role will be to complete tasks such as the following:

  • Support requirements definition and the development of DEMETER tool during the transition from desktop to web-based environment. A description of the tool can be found at the following links:
  • Conduct software acceptance testing and assist users of EUROCONTROL DEMETER tool;
  • Perform analysis of DME network performance in support of PBN, using DEMETER;
  • Conduct software acceptance testing and assist users of Ground-based Navigation Infrastructure Map Tool;
  • Contribute to planning of Ground-based Navigation Infrastructure evolution;
  • Support studies relating to Alternative Positioning, Navigation and Timing (A-PNT);
  • Conduct analyses and produce reports, technical documentation, briefings, etc. to support the dissemination of relevant findings;
  • Carry out other tasks in line with the main purpose of the job.

DESIRED DURATION

From 6 to 12 months.

Your profile

  • Completed university studies of 3 years in a relevant domain (e.g. Aeronautical Engineering, CNS Systems, Air Navigation System Engineering …). A university degree of 5 years (e.g. Master’s degree) in a relevant area would be considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of CNS systems, especially VOR/DME and GNSS;
  • Understanding of Performance Based Navigation (PBN);
  • A relevant experience (internships included) acquired in software tools development / integration / testing / verification and validation;
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in modelling and simulation programming languages and applications such as Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW;
  • Data analysis technique skills;
  • Technical drafting skills in English (e.g. specifications writing);
  • Analytical thinking: Analyses information and identifies relationships;
  • Creativity and Innovation: Applies new approaches;
  • Planning & Organising: Plans ahead and adapts as required;
  • Team Work: Fosters teamwork;
  • Communication: Fosters two-way communication;
  • Ability to work in a multinational and multicultural environment;
  • Professional conduct in line with the corporate behaviors of the Agency, i.e. result-driven, readiness to change, customer focus, integrity and team-player approach;
  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, thorough knowledge of English is required.
