The Role

At Last Mile Health (LMH), we dig data. Are you skilled in project management and passionate about improving data quality in the global health sector? If so, you may be our next Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) Officer.

The Global MERL team is building a robust system of measurement, evaluation, and learning to drive the improvement of programmatic work at Last Mile Health. Reporting to the Managing Director, MERL, the MERL Officer will significantly contribute to the global monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning team through; 1) supporting organizational performance management processes, development of theories of change or logic models, indicator development, and reporting through dashboards, 2) conducting data quality audits and working with LMH staff to address identified issues and set up systems to mitigate quality concerns moving forward, 3) project management support, and 4) any other requested tasks that are in alignment with roles and responsibilities and MERL team scope of work.

This position is open to candidates located in Ghana or on the Eastern seaboard of the United States (i.e. located in Eastern Time). Candidates must be authorized to work in Ghana or the United States.

What You'll Do

  • Work with the Data Architect & Data Engineer to test, iterate, and improve organizational data quality assurance protocols. 
  • Complete quarterly data quality audits on select Key Performance Indicators and grant reported data; work with relevant teams to address errors found (including co-facilitation of capacity strengthening activities).
  • Support planning and execution of data use practices for adaptive management 
  • Support results dissemination to programmatic, organizational, and external stakeholders (e.g, data dashboards, data visualizations, slide decks)
  • Coordinate with country MERL and Global teams to review and analyze data on progress against targets to inform donor communications and improvements in performance 
  • Contribute to research manuscripts  and learning products; coordinate contributions and authorships across diverse teams
  • Serve as GMERL lead for integrating Gender Mainstreaming and Social Inclusion (GMSI) considerations into MERL practice (e.g. in Logic Model development, data review discussions).
  • With guidance from team leadership, plan and coordinate team engagements, including regular team calls or meetings, retreats, and other purposeful time meant to drive progress towards goals
  • Support development of the Global MERL annual team work plans, monitoring progress toward goals, project planning, reporting, and needed adjustments 
  • Provide technical support to key evaluation activities, including updates to study design, data collection tools, and/or analysis and dissemination of findings (in areas of technical expertise and interest)
  • Support  LMH’s program teams to develop and refine theories of change and logic models

What You'll Bring

  • A bachelor's degree in public health or related clinical or social science discipline, with significant coursework and experience in research or evaluation, and project management 
  • Demonstrated experience in monitoring, evaluation, or research in a public health discipline
  • Experience in project management
  • Working knowledge of quantitative statistical analysis and tools (e.g. Stata)
  • Experience with quantitative data collection and analysis methods (specifically in implementing data quality assurance checks)
  • Experience working with country stakeholders in low- and middle-income settings

  • Experience with developing theories of change and logic models 
  • Expertise in software data visualization such as Excel and or other (e.g. tableau) data analysis
  • Experience in research or evaluation dissemination work for various audiences
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and social justice
  • Strong verbal communication and scientific writing skills in English
  • Experience in qualitative data collection and analysis methods

OVERVIEW OF LAST MILE HEALTH’S COMPENSATION MODEL

Compensation for this position:

The Band for this position: Band 2

For the United States, the range is $57,000 - $65,000 dependent upon experience doing an equivalent role. Please note that compensation is subject to US taxes. 

For Ghana, the range is $16,000- $22,000 dependent upon experience doing an equivalent role. Please note that compensation is subject to Ghana taxes.
