RedR is seeking to appoint a Communications and Marketing Coordinator to ensure that the communications and marketing strategy is implemented across the organisation.

RedR and the work we do

RedR UK is an international disaster relief charity which saves lives by giving aid workers the vital skills they need to do their jobs to the highest possible standard. RedR provides training and technical support to NGOs and thousands of people each year in everything from providing emergency shelter to staying safe in the field, from project management after emergencies to essential water and sanitation skills and more.   


 RedR is also a Membership organisation, with a global network of 1,800 Members, all of whom are experienced humanitarian professionals. The RedR Membership is a mark of quality, enabling aid workers to obtain professional recognition of their skills and experience.  


 RedR has offices in the UK and Jordan and works in over 40 countries each year. RedR UK is part of RedR International, an international federation of organisations that share a common vision and mission.

About this role 

The Communications and Marketing Coordinator will ensure that the communications and marketing strategy is implemented across the organisation to build brand awareness, increase reach and engagement to support the generation of fundraising income. The post holder will have exceptional communication and organisational skills with a keen eye for detail.


Summary of Key Responsibilities

The Communications and Marketing Coordinator supports the whole organisation, helping to raise awareness and funds as well as encouraging participation in our activities. Key responsibilities include:


Produce website, social media and communications content to improve our reach across target audiences.

Build relationships with key industry bloggers, public relations, and press.

Creation of new resources and materials for our stakeholders, members, and supporters.

Supporting with various appeals through design and project management with external suppliers.

Management and implementation of the communications and marketing calendar.

Social Media

Maintain and build RedR UK’s social media presence, ensuring social media channels are populated with engaging content with a consistent, strong voice to maximise potential for exposure among target audiences.

Work with the Head of Fundraising and Communications to create and develop digital campaigns (including fundraising and awareness raising campaigns) to be run across social media platforms.

Manage a calendar of social media and website activity.

Monitor and report on engagement, number of followers and website referrals to inform best practice for post timing and content.

Act as the primary point of contact for queries received through social media and inbound emails, ensuring they are responded to appropriately and in a timely manner.


Responsible for the day-to-day management and maintenance of RedR UK’s website, including making edits and creating new content.

Ensure the website content is proofread and accurate, and any broken links or errors are promptly corrected.

Work with external website developer to resolve issues with the website and further develop design of website to accommodate emerging needs.


Support the Head of Fundraising and Communications to develop email marketing campaign strategy, leading to design, editing and creation of content for regular emails.

Optimise Google Ad words, PPC and SEO supporting the Head of Fundraising and Communications with reporting and return on marketing investment (ROMI).

Produce in-house marketing materials including event brochures, graphics and videos using platforms such as Canva or Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, PowerPoint and other editing tools.

Identify inspiring beneficiary stories and produce written and occasional films case studies for use by the Fundraising and Programmes teams.

Support the Programmes teams in all of RedR’s offices to show their impact and promote their expertise to key humanitarian audiences.

Support any teams or offices wishing to undertake communications activities as part of a grantfunded project; ensure that institutional donors’ communications activities and visibility requirements are respected. 

Lead on emergency communications, in close coordination with the Head of Fundraising and Communications.

Occasionally support colleagues from the Fundraising and Programmes teams to produce project reports for institutional donors and/or trusts and foundations.

To champion and monitor the use of RedR brand and style guidelines; to develop messaging guidelines and ensure they are adhered to across the organisation and to support other departments to develop their messaging and material.


Contribute to the development of the fundraising and engagement strategy to grow income and audience.

Embrace the charity’s vision and values whilst continually seeking ways to build stronger and long-lasting initiatives that help bring the values to life.

Keep up to date with charity sector developments, best practice initiatives and relevant training.

Identify ways of streamlining processes and improving ways of working within the charity.

Serve as Duty Officer, responsible for the RedR UK security phone for periods of seven days at a time, dealing with security concerns and incidents that arise and raising these as necessary.

Undertake other tasks as reasonably requested by the CEO.




Demonstrable experience covering a broad range of communication methods, particularly:

Interviewing/sourcing/writing/editing case studies, social media posts, blogs and speeches.

Building a case for support and reporting on impact.

Using a Content Management System (CMS).

Strong digital skills and an awareness of the importance of digital information in the sector.

Knowledge of a broad range of communications activities (e.g. websites, marketing, social media, publications).

Experience maintaining websites and social media, including producing effective content.

Excellent organisational skills and an ability to assess opportunities and challenges and then prioritise.

Ability to research and identify communications opportunities.

Excellent attention to detail, especially in written work.

International cultural awareness.

Up to date knowledge of key humanitarian or development issues and trends and commitment to the international disaster relief sector and RedR’s aims and objectives.

A commitment to the mission and values of RedR.

Knowledge of Office 365.


Experience devising Google AdWords campaigns and managing Google Adwords account including SEO experience.

CIM certificate in Marketing.

A good understanding of Google Analytics.

Video editing experience. 

Experience of working for an international NGO, preferably in the humanitarian or international development sector.
