Mission and objectives

UN Women is the United Nations entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. A global champion for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide. UN Women supports UN Member States as they set global standards for achieving gender equality, and works with governments and civil society to design laws, policies, programmes and services needed to ensure that the standards are effectively implemented and truly benefit women and girls worldwide.

Context

The UN Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) mobilizes critical support for local and grassroots civil society organizations working on women, peace and security and humanitarian action. WPHF is a flexible and rapid financing mechanisms supporting interventions designed to enhance the capacity of women to prevent conflict, respond to crises and emergencies, and seize key peacebuilding opportunities. In Uganda, the UN Women country office if the Management Entity of WPHF. Currently 19 organisations are receiving funding from Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) to support grass-root level women’s organisation on projects relating to WPS, protection and conflict prevention.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of Programme Management Specialist WPHF, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Support monitoring of implementation of projects under the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian fund in close co-operation with the implementing partners (IPs) • Support in reviewing partner reports and providing support to the IPs • Support the provision of technical support and capacity building measures to partners • Provide inputs to internal and external reporting • Support in facilitating various events • Provide administrative support to the WPHF portfolio in Uganda • Provide support to the field monitoring and in producing communication material • Support the development of position papers and plans for awareness raising campaigns on the importance of women’s participation in peacebuilding, as requested
