Job Overview: The ICM Affordable Housing specialist will work with staff, clients, and community partners to stabilize refugee and client households by connecting them with long-term resources for low-income and designated affordable hosing opportunities. In coordination with the ICM and Reception and Placement Team, the ICM Affordable Housing Specialist will be responsible for locating housing for ICM clients and other vulnerable populations. The ICM Affordable Housing Specialist also participates, as required, in program planning and service developments through teams, committees and work groups. The ICM Affordable Housing Specialist operates under moderate supervision with latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Property Management and Vendor Relations:

·       Conduct apartment outreach and secure safe, appropriate, and affordable housing for refugees and other vulnerable populations.

·       Liaise with property management companies and landlords to ensure continuing quality services to clients.

Compliance Documentation:

·       Regularly visit apartment complexes to ensure housing meets the minimum standards as laid out in federal regulations.

·       Ensure accuracy and completion of leases and applications maintained in client case files are in compliance with IRC polices.

·       Complete case notes relating to all housing activities, ensuring reporting requirements are met.

Client Services:

·       Work with staff and clients to identify and apply for low-income housing that meets clients’ specified needs.

·       Organize and oversee the setup of housing for refugees and other vulnerable populations, including coordinating lease signing and move-ins.

Team/Office Participation:

·       Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and other duties as assigned by direct Supervisor.

·       Supervise and train a team of volunteers and interns working either directly with clients on in the office on a variety of organizational and administrative tasks.

·       Work as part of a team to provide comprehensive strength-based services to IRC clients through coordination of cases and effective communication between team members and departments.

·       Provide additional ICM casework services, as needed.

·       Comply with all policies, procedures and protocols of the agency.

Internal: IRC Employees, interns, volunteers

External: Current and potential property managers and vendors.

Job Requirements:

·       Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field of study; or equivalent work experience.

·       Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience in housing or human services field preferred.

·       Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.

·       Proven ability to contribute both independently and as a key team member.

·       Self- starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.

·       Fluent in English, both spoken and written; bilingual ability in another language is desired.

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

·       Valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle with current insurance, ability to drive a box truck and company van.

Working Environment:

·       A combination of standard office environment and ‘field’ time in and around the service delivery area.

·       May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
