Mission and objectives

UNICEF is on the ground in over 150 countries and territories to help children survive and thrive, from early childhood through adolescence. The world’s largest provider of vaccines for developing countries, UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. UNICEF is funded entirely by the voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, the UNICEF Division of Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) maximises private income to UNICEF through fundraising and sales of cards and gifts, and manages the strategic relationship with 36 UNICEF National Committees in industrialised countries. PFP also implements global strategies in child rights advocacy, communication and brand positioning in National Committee countries through a range of partnerships, including with the media, corporations, civil society and young people.

Context

UNICEF’s work on data for children is based on a simple premise: We believe that better collection, analysis and use of data drives better results for children. When the right data are in the right hands at the right time, decisions can be better informed, more equitable, and more likely to protect children’s rights. To translate that potential into results, UNICEF must approach its data work more systematically – learning from our experience, building on our strengths, filling our capacity gaps and expanding our partnerships. The UNV will part of the Planning and Data section of UNICEF’s Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia focusing primarily on providing support to the section and country offices in terms of analysis of data availability, quality, recentness and disaggregation. The incumbent will support the COs with data landscape analysis, data action planning and follow up with COs and concerned RO sections. It will involve closer understanding of the data needs of the country and COs related to child rights and proposing and supporting more specific and tailored solutions.
