OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the Director of the Division of Water Sciences (HYD), and under the direct supervision of the Chief of Section Hydrological Systems, Climate Change and Adaptation (HCA), to support the project Addressing Hydro-Climatic Vulnerability through Citizen and Open Science, to be implemented in the Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) regions: In this context, the Associate Project Coordinator shall perform the following tasks within the framework of these projects:I) Addressing Hydro-Climatic Vulnerability through Citizen and Open Science:
- Support the implementation of a flood and drought Early Warning System (EWS) and Platform focusing on hazard mapping and contingency planning
- Plan, organize and implement activities related to Citizen and Open Science and bottom-up approaches to climate change adaptation, such as Climate Risk Informed Decision Analysis (CRIDA)
- Support high-level policy sessions on hydroclimatic risk management strategies and Citizen and Open Science
- Develop activities to facilitate the development of trainings and other capacity building activities for the project
- Organize advisory and expert meetings and follow up activities with partners and stakeholders, monitor and review technical reports and provide necessary feedback
- Identify experts and draft terms of reference for the project activities
- Organize events as required such as training workshops and meetings
- Draft progress narrative and periodical reports for donor meeting and governing meetings
- Prepare publications, presentations and other outreach materials based on the outcomes of the project
- Provide support to outreach activities for the project by preparing news and events items to be updated in the UNESCO website to disseminate project deliverables and outcomes to project stakeholders
- Support the development of activities in synergy with the CliMWaR and Be-Resilient projects and Partners.
Advanced University degree (Master’s or equivalent) in the field of natural science, hydrology, earth sciences or international development studies.WORK EXPERIENCE
- At least 1 year of relevant experience
- Experience of work with the United Nations would be an asset
- Familiarity with one or more of the following fields: environmental sciences, Hydrology and water resources, Climate Change, Citizen and Open Science
- Excellent writing skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and Excel
- High degree of independence and organization, as well as well‐developed capacities for teamwork
- Strong knowledge of computer applications, web skills and social
- Experiences on flood and drought monitoring and EWS, as well as climate resilient water management approaches
- Demonstrated experiences in project management.
- Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken)
- Knowledge of French and/or Spanish would be an asset.
