The Statistics and Data Directorate (SDD) (www.oecd.org/sdd) provides statistics and data on a comparable basis and from a variety of sources to analysts, policy makers, and members of civil society. SDD also develops new metrics and innovative digital tools to address emerging policy issues, leads the development of international statistical standards, contributes to improve statistical methods, and coordinates statistical and data-related activities within the Organisation and with other international agencies. Within the Statistics and Data Directorate, the Division for Trade and Productivity Statistics (TPS) oversees the development and dissemination of productivity, prices, business and trade statistics.

TPS is looking for a Junior Analyst to contribute to its work programme on productivity statistics. The selected person will report to the Head of the Productivity Unit and be involved in the collection, production and development of productivity statistics, and in the research activities of the Unit and the division.
 

Main Responsibilities

Statistical work and economic research

  • Keep abreast of the economic and statistical literature on productivity and contribute to the research activities of the Productivity Unit and the Division. These activities will include the analysis of productivity indicators and the identification of relevant measurement issues for the purpose of drafting analytical Working Papers.
  • Contribute to the drafting of the OECD Compendium of Productivity Indicators, in view of the latest economic developments.
  • Take responsibility for the maintenance and development of the OECD Productivity Statistics database, and contribute to the development of other databases as required.
  • Update and develop the indicators included in the OECD Compendium of Productivity Indicators (e.g. labour productivity, capital services and multifactor productivity) and prepare related statistical material.

Communication and liaison

  • Develop good working relationships with colleagues across the OECD, with data producers in national statistical offices, national administrations and other international organisations, and with academics in the wider research community working on related topics.
  • Participate in expert meetings and workshops related to productivity measurement and analysis.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Academic Background

  • An advanced university degree or equivalent qualification in statistics, economics or econometrics, with a strong foundation in quantitative analysis and statistics.

Professional Background

  • At least two years of professional experience working with macroeconomic statistics, including the analysis of data sources, definitions, and methodologies, preferably gained in an international organisation, a national statistical office, a central bank or a ministry.
  • A solid understanding of macroeconomic concepts, long-term economic growth theory, and the measurement of capital services and multifactor productivity. Knowledge of the System of National Accounts and other accounting and statistical standards, and the related statistics would be an advantage.
  • Experience in drafting briefing notes, reports and technical working papers.

Tools

  • Excellent programming skills and experience with data management and analysis using R, Python, Stata and/or SAS. Knowledge of SQL would be an advantage.
  • Experience in web-scraping software tools and/or machine-learning techniques will be a distinct advantage.

Languages

  • Working knowledge of both OECD official languages (English and French) would be an asset.

Contract Duration

  • 2-year fixed term appointment, with the possibility of renewal.

Selection Process

For retained candidates, written tests and video-recorded interviews are foreseen in early June and panel interviews are planned for end June.
