INTRODUCTION

The State of Qatar is one of the founding Member countries of the GGGI and currently serves as a Member of its Council, GGGI’s executive organ presided by His Excellency Ban Ki-Moon, the 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations.

GGGI’s Qatar Program based in Doha is scaling up its activities to deliver a multi-year cooperation program with the Qatar Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC), along with various national and international stakeholders. The MOECC-GGGI Cooperation Program consists of several work streams on climate change and green growth policy, planning, and implementation that will directly contribute to the environmental sustainability, economic diversification, and international cooperation goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV) and recently unveiled National Environment and Climate Change Strategy (QNE).

GGGI Qatar office is supported by a Host Country Agreement with the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed in August 2020. GGGI also has an active collaboration with the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) in the form of an MoU and several multi-year earmarked project agreements to support climate resilience and sustainable economic development in climate-vulnerable developing countries.

GGGI measures its development impacts through six Strategic Outcomes that include greenhouse gas emissions reduction, green jobs creation, access to sustainable services (such as energy and waste management), improved air quality, adequate maintenance of natural ecosystem services, and enhanced adaptation to climate change.
