Background

UN Women has been supporting the active participation and contribution of women in the national HIV response. SASA! is one of the community engagements GBV and HIV prevention models that has been proven to effectively work in shifting power relations between men and women in an African context. UN Women has been implementing SASA under the Spotlight Initiative and the Unified Budget, Results and Accountability Framework (UBRAF). UN Women is currently providing technical and financial support to Students and Youth Working on Reproductive Health Action Team (SAYWHAT), Katswe Sistahood and Hope for a Child in Christ (HOCIC) to implement the SASA in Hopley, Mbire and Matobo districts as well as technical support to the Zimbabwe Association of Church run Hospitals (ZACH) and the National AIDS Council - that are piloting SASA! in Zimbabwe under the Global Fund. To date the organisations have implemented the Start and Awareness phases and are now moving on to the third phase, which is the Support Phase. The implementation was preceded by a capacity building workshop for these, and other organisations.

The Start Phase and Awareness Phases trainings were conducted in 2018 and 2019 respectively. The CO would like to contract an accredited trainer to conduct the training of the Support phase as the CO does not have the capacity in-house. The training methodology is designed for organizations that have already been implementing the Start and Awareness phases. The five-day SASA! Support training which the CO is supporting, will be conducted (at a venue to be confirmed) in June 2022.

Objectives of the assignment

The overall objective of the workshop is to build the capacities of key local actors in the understanding and utilization of the SASA! methodology. The First Start course, conducted in June 2018, enabled learning of the fundamentals of the SASA! approach to preventing violence against women and HIV and built essential skills for implementation in communities within six to nine months. The Awareness phase of the training covered application of the SASA! methodology through awareness raising activities and trains participants to influence attitudes and guides them in developing a passion for and practical skills in creating positive change

Participants are expected to:

•Understand and internalize the four core components of the SASA approach.
