The UN Secretary-General launched on 1 January 2019 a bold and new global reform which repositioned the UN Development System to deliver more effectively and efficiently with the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. As part of this reform, UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), under the leadership of an empowered and independent UN Resident Coordinator - the highest-ranking official of the UN Development System and Representative of the UN Secretary-General at country level - support countries in the achievement of their development priorities and the attainment of the SDGs.
This position is located in the Resident Coordinator’s Office in Jordan, and reports to the Communications and Advocacy Officer.
The purpose of this internship is to find a creative, innovative, motivated social media intern for three months, extendable up to six months, starting June 2022 to support UN Jordan events and social media accounts. The qualified candidate will support UN Jordan efforts to engage youth of Jordan in meaningful conversations, and to work with social media activists and influencers in support of the UN Jordan different campaigns. This internship will provide the successful candidate an exposure to the working environment of a multilateral organization and a better understanding of UN’s mandate to safeguard the rights of everyone, everywhere.
Under the guidance and supervision of the Communications and Advocacy Officer of the United Nations Resident Coordinator, the Events and Social Media Intern provides support to office events management and social media accounts.
The intern promotes a client, quality and results-oriented approach.
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. The intern will be responsible for the following duties:
• Support in organizing the UN in Jordan events.
• Support in providing quality and timely communication content supported by photographs and infographics for UN in Jordan social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram.
• Work with young activists / influencers to amplify UN in Jordan campaigns.
• Facilitate preparation of communication content for presentations and reports.
• Prepare communication content and schedule posts in Arabic and English in consultation with the Communication Officer.
• Supports management and upload of content to the UN in Jordan social media.
• Gather and monitor data for monthly analytical reports on social media interactivity.
• Support in designing /developing social media designs when required.
• Prepare bi-weekly analytics and content reports capturing local trends, feedback from followers, opportunities and challenges related to youth in Jordan.
• Support day to day monitoring and management of UNJordan’s social media accounts, including posting content, monitoring content performance.
• Engage with the social media community daily in a way that is on-brand.
• Establish best practices.
• Contribute to the strategy, vision, and voice of the channels.
• Assist the communication section with additional tasks as required.
Expected results (measurable results)
Under the supervision of the RCO Communications Officer, the intern will:
• Develop monthly social media calendar
• Grow UN Jordan social media followers in key target audiences
• Support the design of campaigns for social media.
• Map a list of youth and social media activists in Jordan/ thematic areas

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
1. Applicants must:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;
2. Applicants must:
(a) be computer literate in standard software applications;
(b) have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter; and
(c) have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Knowledge of creating content and editing videos for social media is desirable.
Knowledge of which content performs well in the different social media channels and what does not is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required; and fluency in Arabic is required.
Note: "Fluency" equals a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and "Knowledge of" equals a rating of 'confident' in two of the four areas.
