Org. Setting and Reporting

The position of Coordination Officer (Administration) is located in the Office of the Director of Administrative Law Division (ALD), Office of Human Resources (OHR), Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC).

The Division is in charge of the implementation of the UN standards of conduct for all categories of personnel across the UN Secretariat. ALD provides strategic and legal advice on internal justice matters and represent the Secretary-General before the United Nations Dispute Tribunal. ALD handles disciplinary matters relating to Secretariat staff members, oversees and coordinates efforts and actions to prevent and respond to unsatisfactory conduct, and
works to empower and support UN Secretariat managers in the exercise of their responsibilities to address conduct and discipline matters.

The incumbent reports to the Director of Administrative Law Division.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Director, ALD/OHR, the Coordination Officer (Administration) will be responsible for the following duties:

•Leads, oversees and coordinates the preparation and implementation of the work program through regular reviews, drafts routine and ad hoc outputs/correspondence and provides effective monitoring of reports and data.
•Identifies deviations from plans and proposes corrective measures.
•Monitors programme implementation; drafts and/or coordinates and supervises preparation of statements, reports and other material requiring consolidated response from ALD, including to the General Assembly and other entities such as oversight bodies and auditors; ensures follow-up, as necessary, and monitors implementation of recommendations made by the General Assembly, oversight bodies and auditors; participates in meetings of legislative bodies and other entities.
•Monitors and controls budgetary allocations through regular reviews.
•Implements and monitors support services, including procurement of supplies and services; transport, travel and traffic, communications, engineering and information technology support; and provision of local utilities and service requirements
•Coordinates and provides advice to others on human resource administration, financial
administration and management information issues and practices to colleagues.
•Performs other related work as required.

•Planning & Organizing: Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work; foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning; monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; uses time efficiently.

Education

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, finance, accounting, human resources management, law or related area is required. A first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in administration, finance, accounting, human resources management or related field is required.

Experience in change management, development and implementation of new initiatives is
desirable.

Experience with administrative law or conduct and discipline matters in the United Nations or
another comparable international organization is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice

This position is temporarily available for a period of three months. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.
