This vacancy will fill two (2) positions and is only open for candidates who are entitled to work in the E.U.
This initial contract duration is 12 months, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Founded in 1964 by the late Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam and located in Trieste, Italy, the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) seeks to accomplish its mandate by providing scientists from developing countries with the continuing education and skills that they need to enjoy long and productive careers. ICTP has been a major force in stemming the scientific brain drain from the developing world. For more than 50 years, ICTP has been a driving force behind global efforts to advance scientific expertise in the developing world.
Under the direct supervision of the System & Network Analyst the incumbent will provide services in the delivery of a range of activities related to the High Performance Computing (HPC)/Cloud Computing project and network management. Essential responsibilities include:
Long Description- Perform system administration tasks of ICTP’s HPC/in-house Cloud resources, including deployment of new computational clusters and troubleshooting/resolution of requests about HPC or in-house Cloud resources from the HPC user community.
- Participate in network administration and troubleshooting.

Work in a team to provide support to scientists for the development of new software programs, compiling of software programs for HPC or in-house Cloud platforms, and development of software code / scripts.
EDUCATION
- Completed secondary education/apprenticeship.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in system administration and support, preferably within an international organization.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
- Experience in participating in the system administration of LINUX based HPC or Cloud Computing clusters.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Flexibility, user support oriented, tact and ability to interact with users coming from different countries and with different backgrounds and excellent team player.
LANGUAGES
- Excellent knowledge (spoken and written) of English.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
- Knowledge of programming languages (Python, Perl, Shell scripts).
LANGUAGES
- Good knowledge (spoken and written) of Italian.
