Background/IRC Summary

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. 

Its External Relations (ER) department was created in early 2020 and is comprised of three complementary functional areas: Private Fundraising, Communications and Advocacy – functions that work together to enhance IRC’s ability to ‘punch above its weight’ in private income, advocacy, and brand awareness. 

The International Philanthropy and Partnerships (IPP) team leads on the Organization’s engagement with corporations, foundations, international philanthropists globally, as well as IRC’s efforts in new funding streams (Faith-based; Donor-Advised Funds; Innovative Financing et al).

Job Overview/Summary:

IPP raises funds from private foundations, corporate foundations and from business areas including corporate social responsibility, marketing, sponsorship, employee giving and match giving. The IPP team matches institutional funder interests with the IRC’s extensive global programs.

The Officer will report directly to the Associate Director of Business Development and work closely with colleagues across the team to develop and execute robust, dynamic partnerships and cultivate their own partnerships portfolio. The Officer will also work seamlessly with internal stakeholders across departments in External Relations, including the Global Partnerships & Philanthropic Services (GPPS) team to ensure effective cultivation. This person will also partner with our Crisis Response, Recovery & Delivery (CRRD) and Resettlement, Asylum & Integration (RAI) teams, at Headquarters and around the world, maintaining engagement with and knowledge of programs and acting as a liaison between funder and program.

The person who fills this role will be a self-motivated, collaborative, creative, strategic, and results-oriented professional with a passion for the IRC's mission, keen interest in private sector fundraising and partnerships, and dedication to the organization's diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. They will thrive in a fast-moving environment and be able to quickly build dynamic, high-value corporate partnerships.

Major Responsibilities:

·         Engage and acquire new business accounts across a multitude of business sectors

·         In coordination with the Associate Director, develop and execute strategies for prospecting and establish funding goals and benchmarks in support of IRC’s Strategy100

·         Collaborate with Corporate New Business team members to reach annual collective fundraising goal of more than $2.25M in cash, operational, and in-kind in Fiscal Year 2022

·         Develop materials for multi-sectoral partners or prospects, including concept notes, proposals, presentations, and reports, from drafts through to final line-editing and formatting

·         Prepare and contribute materials, agendas, and briefings for external prospect and donor meetings, and for internal strategy meetings

·         With Corporate New Business team members, monitor and manage expectations and objectives for partners, including budget, evaluation, and reporting

·         Facilitate information flows between prospects and donors, program staff and IPP Officers

·         Manage and supervise internal drafting and approval processes necessary for proposals, reports, and budgets

·         Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with External Relations colleagues and IRC program and support staff globally

·         Undertake special assignments, as directed

Job Requirements

·         Bachelor’s Degree

·         Three to five years’ experience of front-line corporate fundraising experience or similar front-line experience in a dynamic environment

·         Experience raising and stewarding gifts of $100K+

·         Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, including speaking to and writing for donors; crafting compelling partnership proposals and pitch materials

·         Passion for the IRC’s mission and commitment to private sector partnerships, including its commitment to championing IRC’s diversity, equity, and inclusion priorities as part of its mission

·         Proven track record of maintaining positive, collaborative, and productive relationships with staff at all levels

·         Good judgment in maintaining confidentiality of donor information

·         Strong understanding of the necessary support processes required to deliver effective institutional funder relationships

·         CRM experience a plus – Salesforce and/or Raisers Edge

·         Ability to respond quickly to changes in short-term work priorities

·         Ability to identify and create processes necessary to support effective partnerships

·         Commitment to fundraising for international development, human rights, social justice and US immigrant communities

·         Ability and willingness to travel domestically and occasionally internationally, and ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
