Mission and objectives

Helping countries to achieve the simultaneous eradication of poverty and significant reduction of inequalities and exclusion. With the changing world as the backdrop, and building on our core strengths, our vision is focused on making the next big breakthrough in development: to help countries achieve the simultaneous eradication of poverty and significant reduction of inequalities and exclusion. This is a vision within reach, with the eradication of extreme poverty and major reductions in overall poverty feasible within a generation. It should be possible as well to make significant inroads against income and non- income measures of inequality and exclusion within this time fame. This ambitious vision will require an institution that meets benchmarks for organizational effectiveness that match or exceed the highest standards set in its peer community. It will also demand that we organize our work around a focused set of outcomes. These outcomes will support the priorities and needs of each country and region, and capture the development changes UNDP will contribute towards directly, significantly and variably during the course of the Strategic Plan. In so doing, we will align our approach to results with other United Nations agencies.

Task description

The UNDP Accelerator Lab aims to develop bottom-up solutions to 21st century problems. As opposed to developing elaborate projects that require the investment of costly resources, the Lab works in short cycles (two weeks to three months) to quickly test if a prototype works, before it is scaled into a more elaborate project. There are four stages to each cycle which are instrumental to understanding the limitations, mapping out stakeholders and existing solutions, as well as looking at ways to test and scale a hypothesis. The Accelerator Lab uses the method of " working out loud" constantly sharing insights about their work, one of the knowledge products produces by the lab is blog posts.
