Mission and objectives
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. As the international community has committed to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition by 2030, one in nine people worldwide still do not have enough to eat. Food and food-related assistance lie at the heart of the struggle to break the cycle of hunger and poverty. For its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict, WFP was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2020.
Context
The Communications, Advocacy and Marketing team of Japan Relations Office is producing communications and visibility products to raise awareness and strengthen branding of the organization in the Japanese market. Stories, press releases and videos will be the key tools to increase awareness and mobilize support to save and change the lives of millions of people suffering from hunger. Translated materials will be uploaded on WFP's website and social media accounts. The OV will directly report to Communications Officer at the Japan Relations Office and will have an opportunity to gain experience at the world's largest humanitarian organization.
Task description
WFP is looking for 2-3 Online Volunteers (OV) to translate feature stories, video scripts, flyers and press releases from English to Japanese. An OV is asked to translate 1-2 documents each week. The OV is tasked to translate documents in line with WFP editorial guidelines. Translated materials will be used by WFP Japan Relations Office to bolster WFP branding and visibility to help garner public support and mobilize resources in the Japanese market. The OV will directly report to Communications Officer at the Japan Relations Office and will have an opportunity to be exposed to WFP's communications activities and gain experience by supporting the translation tasks at the world's largest humanitarian organization.
