Mission and objectives

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. As the international community has committed to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition by 2030, one in nine people worldwide still do not have enough to eat. Food and food-related assistance lie at the heart of the struggle to break the cycle of hunger and poverty. For its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict, WFP was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2020.

Context

The Online Volunteer will support the Communications team of the Japan Relations Office of WFP. Social media posts on its Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are powerful tools to engage with the public and deliver our messaging for the ultimate goal of ending hunger. The Online Volunteer will be tasked to translate or create texts as well as develop engaging designs, photo cards, infographics. etc.

Task description

The Online Volunteer will be asked to create social media assets, such as photo cards, text animation, SNS copy etc. by consulting with the Communications Officer. This is to support the effort of the Japan Relations Office to increase awareness and build organizational branding. Overall, the Online Volunteer is expected to create around 10-15 social media products/contents per week. The Online Volunteer might be requested to translate the created content.
