What we do

 

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose of the position

 

The Business Analyst is in charge of collecting business needs, translating the needs into requirements & functional specifications and ensuring they are addressed by T&I (Technology and Information) services and solutions.

They are also responsible for anticipating and understanding changes and the impact they will have on the organization. In that aspect, they have an advisory role on T&I roadmap for business technology improvements. 

We also expect the Business Analyst to actively support management in structuring and delivering our Quality Assurance practice (testing and validation, from strategy to execution). This could represent up to 40% of reporting time, depending on the assigned project needs.  

Main duties and responsibilities (1/3)

 

Business Analysis:

  • Work with the business partners to challenge and define the scope of the project via business process analysis using appropriate elicitation and user documentation to ensure full Business and T&I understanding;
  • Write and handle functional and non-functional requirements, by running brainstorming sessions, interviews, workshops and other requirements gathering techniques as appropriate;
  • Translate the requirements into detailed specifications in the form of user stories and acceptance criteria;
  • Analyze, re-use or update data concepts;
  • Build and handle traceability matrixes that allow all requirements to be traced from business demand through to testing, defect management and delivery;
  • Ensure change requests are identified, detailed and included in the project management process;
  • Review and participate in the solution design and user support documentation;
  • Work with agile/scrum methodologies and at times act as a Product Owner (Proxy).

Main duties and responsibilities (2/3)

 

Quality Assurance practice (testing and validation of T&I products):

  • Take ownership on the definition and evolution of the overall master testing strategy; collaborating with, and on behalf of management;
  • Actively support in defining guidelines for test management, methods, tools and templates;
  • Actively support in the selection and follow up of external resources involved in test management and test execution;
  • Mentor on the documentation and execution of test cases;
  • Mentor on defect management, collaborating closely with development teams and suppliers;
  • Mentor business acceptance and solution validation through UAT with the Business teams;
  • Be delegated by management on any activities vital for the definition and evolution of Quality Assurance services ;  
  • Develop and deliver upskilling / training to BA&QA team.

Main duties and responsibilities (3/3)

 

Domain subject-matter professional:

  •  Gain an in-depth understanding of ICRC business processes, data models and supporting T&I architecture;
  •  Be capable of proactively proposing improvements to the supporting Information Systems as well as suggesting process improvements through business process analysis;
  •  Propose alternative technical and business solutions including the IT architecture solution inputs to the end to end processes;
  •  Maintain a business knowledge base through process documentation, securing T&I business knowledge;
  •  Work closely with the Enterprise Architecture team, adding to the overall EA strategy and documentation.

 

Training and deployment at Project level (in line with the Change Management Strategy):

  •  Support the handover and training of both ICT and Business users (Operations handover);
  •  Train the Deployment team on an advanced usage and configuration of the solution and support the team in the industrialization of the deployments.

Business:

  • Business Owners and Business Project Managers;
  • Domain Experts, Application owners, Process Owners, Functional Advisors.

 

T&I:

  • Direct line manager: Business Analysis and Quality Assurance Manager;
  • Business Analyst team in the scope of BA practice and QA practice and QA specialists;
  • T&I Project Manager in the scope of projects and feasibility studies;
  • Solution and Technical Architects in the scope of projects;
  • T&I Field team in the scope of projects;
  • Enterprise Architecture team in the scope of EA methodology and projects.

 

External:

  • T&I suppliers and solution providers;
  • External development teams.

Education and experience required

 

  • Demonstrated ability in Business Analysis (minimum 8 years), ideally with experience in humanitarian or international organizations;
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in test management or similar, including test strategy, test planning and coordination of testers, functional and non-functional testing, user acceptance testing (UAT); experience of test automation would be an asset;
  • Confirmed capacity to work in an international environment (English speaking teams) and multi-location teams;
  • Good general knowledge of the IT world and technologies;
  • Good experience in Agile methodologies;
  • MS TFS / AzureDevops experience an asset;
  • Business analysis certification (e.g. CCBA, CBAP), Test management certification or other suitable professional certification is desirable.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (French a nice to have);
  • Capacity to quickly understand multiple new concepts in parallel and identify impacts on the existing Information System;
  • Proactive and good ability to prioritize;
  • Superb communication and listening skills to collect the information required;
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills; thorough and detailed;
  • Adept at collecting, synthesizing, interpreting, and summarizing data;
  • Ability to work autonomously, while also being a validated teammate and accustomed to inspiring change;
  • Ability to translate sophisticated questions into practical strategies and to present information in a clear and concise manner;
  • Sense of initiative and ability to critically examine issues and find constructive solutions;
  • Excellent presentation skills.
