OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The main objective of the programme is to improve environmental health and food safety management, reduce environmental disease burden by preventing risks to human health from environmental exposure and in the extractive industry mining.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the overall guidance of the Head of WHO Office in Mongolia and technical supervision of the Senior Programme Coordinator, the incumbent shall work closely with the national counterparts of the Ministry of Health and other partners involved in environmental health and food safety programme to perform the following tasks:

  1. Provide technical and operational support to the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to Implement National Environmental Health Programme;
  2. Coordinate, support and evaluate the implementation of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene projects in selected rural health facilities in close consultation with MOH staff, aimag and soum governors and in collaboration with other UN and international organizations and partners;
  3. Support development and implementation of the national plan of action on Healthcare Waste Management;
  4. Facilitate advocacy and capacity building activities for integration of environmental health impact assessment into environmental impact assessment;
  5. Coordinate healthy settings activities and promote healthy soum and khoroo initiatives;
  6. Provide support to MOH activities on chemical safety, poisoning management and surveillance;
  7. Facilitate activities on occupational health and safety and prevention of work related diseases;
  8. Coordinate, support and facilitate health in the extractive industry (mining) as a focal point;
  9. Provide support on priority programme in WHO Mongolia especially in CCS as well as Category 3 PB implementation as Focal Point;
  10. Perform other related duties as may be required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: Degree in Public Health, Environmental Science or related field.
Desirable: Post graduate training in environmental health is an advantage.

Experience

Essential: At least 5 years of experience in the development, programme management, monitoring and evaluation of environmental health and food safety programme at national level or academic institutions.
Desirable: Experience working with International organizations in the relevant field is an advantage.

Skills

-Ability to work strategically with Ministry of Health, nongovernmental organizations, and other partners.

-Broad knowledge and skills in planning, managing, teaching and evaluating of programmes on environmental health and food safety.

-Good communication skills to work harmoniously as a member of a team and adapt to diverse educational and cultural background and possess high standard of personal conduct.

REMUNERATION

Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at MNT 96,372,000 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
