Duties and Responsibilities

Launched during the WIF 2021, the World Investment for Development Alliance (WIDA) responds to the need for a dedicated stakeholder platform for international investment relations. This alliance is particularly relevant today considering the setback of globalization, the sustainable development goals (SDGs) imperative and the crisis of multilateralism in economic governance.

Under the overall supervision of the Director of the Division on Investment and Enterprise, the consultant will undertake the following tasks pertaining to a large extent to the development of the WIDA and other key outcomes of the 2021 World Investment forum.
In particular, the consultant will:

• Monitors economic developments in international investment for sustainable development as they pertain to the WIDA Clusters (Investment promotion and facilitation; Investment financing; Investment treaties, entry, protection; Value chain transformation)

• Develops draft strategies and recommendations pertaining to the Division's work on international investment, particularly as they pertain to the WIDA debrief from the outcome of the WIDA session held during the WEF 2022 Annual Meeting in Davos.

• Designs and monitors technical cooperation proposals as they pertain to international investment for development new initiatives (WIDA and initiatives pertaining to the clusters…) in member states.

• Continue to coordinatecontacts with other WIDA-participating organisations and supporting UNCTAD with issues related to the Alliance.

• Develop and maintain the online WIDA platform.

• Develop a series of WIDA communication material, including a newsletter.

• Support finalisation and rollout of the T20 Policy Brief on Green FDI.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree, Master, in economics, international affairs, business administration,public management or related field.
Experience: At least 10 years of progressive experience in policy analysis and implementation in the area of trade and investment for development. Proven experience with issues pertaining to international agreements as well as with issues pertaining to investment promotion and facilitation desirable.
Language: Fluency oral and written in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable
