Job Overview/Summary: The Youth Services Coordinator (YSC) coordinates educational programming for newcomer youth, including planning, implementation and reporting for the IRC’s After School, Saturday Learning Series and Summer Academy. The YSC collaborates closely with the Youth Supervisor to ensure all programs integrate best practices for teaching and tutoring English Language Learners and students with interrupted education, as well as social-emotional learning principles, and to ensure that IRC Silver Spring’s youth education goals and objectives are accomplished using a holistic, collaborative approach, in partnership with school staff, caregivers and newcomer youth themselves. The YSC will supervise a small team of Youth Success Specialists, interns and volunteers.

Major Responsibilities:

Lead the IRC Youth Tutoring Volunteers

·       Manage 40+ volunteers and interns to support program administration and implementation for afterschool, Saturday Learning Series and Summary Academy programs.

·       Supervise a team of Youth Success Specialists. Provide guidance for YSS staff to implement day to day activities and support them in their professional development.

·       Create curricula with support from Youth Supervisor and Youth Success Specialists for academic programs.

·       Proctor online tutoring with 12-15 tutors daily.

·       Lead online community events every other Saturday morning.

·       Plan and facilitate career days/visit for students.

·       Plan and facilitate workshops, field trips and panels for post-secondary opportunities, Student learning services hours and civic engagement.

·       Manage participant recruitment, retention and attendance to programs.

·       Manage program files and databases (enrollment, attendance, outcomes monitoring); maintain accurate and complete records

·       Collaborate with Youth Supervisor to ensure program monitoring & evaluation activities are carried out in May, report on program progress and achievements

 

Maintain program information and data collection systems in compliance with IRC standards and contractual obligations, contribute to strengthening program monitoring

·       Prepare internal and external reports for programs supervised.

·       Ensure program data is consistently collected and entered in relevant databases.

·       Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

·       A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college; preferably in the field of education, social work, psychology, or a related human services field.

·       2+ years of progressively responsible experience working with at-risk youth, specifically in the context of educational and social programs

·       Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations, highly desirable

·       Proven success planning and delivering creative and engaging curricula for beginner to intermediate ELLs

·       Cultural competency training experience, desirable

·       Demonstrated ability to promote an organizational culture that reflects IRC’s core values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality.  Ability to lead in a way that recognizes that IRC’s work is best accomplished through the true collaboration of individuals from many cultures with a great variety of skills and perspectives.

·       Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

·       Fluent in MS Office applications, especially MS Excel

·       Organized, responsible, and flexible: able to maintain responsibility for multiple tasks in the context of a diverse, fast-paced work environment and maintain composure under pressure

·       Fluency in English required; fluency in a second language highly desired (such as: Spanish, Dari, Pashto, Arabic, French, Amharic)

·       Saturday availability during the school year.

·       Must have a valid US driver’s license and regular access to an insured vehicle.   

Working Environment:  Combination of office-based, community location-based, and remote work.
