Overview of position

Under the overall supervision of the Resources Management Officer & Head of Sub Office & the direct supervision of the Logistics Officer & in coordination with the Fleet Management Assistant, the incumbent will be responsible for driving our clients trucks transporting the Non Food Items (NFI) or shelter materials from our clients warehouses to the camps vice versa in the NFI shelter or other programs. The incumbent will be also responsible for driving our clients vehicle to transport goods with their staff authorized by our client, from one destination to another in a timely, safe & cost effective manner.

Role objectives
  • Drive our clients trucks & execute the tasks as assigned.

  • Understand & implement the our clients NFI / shelter / programs & logistics Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) in day to day work.

  • Support proper loading, transportation, delivery & distribution of NFI / shelter items from our clients warehouses in Pemba to the provinces assigned. 

  • Ensure the safety of the cargo & truck, observe traffic rules & road discipline. 

  • Manage the day to day maintenance of the assigned truck to ensure roadworthiness. This includes daily check of tires, brakes, engine oil, fan belt, etc.

  • Make weekly reports on truck status & share with the Fleet Manager.

  • Report promptly any defects or malfunctioning of the truck that require immediate attention.

  • Assist in planning & control of (regular) services.

  • Make written records into the maintenance logbook.

  • Ensure that in case of accident, supervisors are informed & a police report is obtained.

  • Always maintain the truck road logbook.

  • Check daily status & availability of spares, jack & tools.

  • Refuel the truck as required. 

  • Always ensure cleanliness of the truck.

  • Ensure that our clients truck is only used for official / authorized business.

  • Ensure that the keys are returned for safeguarding at the end of the shift or handed over to the next driver at the transit center.

  • Standby to assist Logistics Assistant as needed on receiving new arrival shipments like, packing lists, waybills, bills of lading & the shipping invoices.

  • Standby to assist Logistics Assistant as needed on supervising & instructing warehouse daily workers.

  • Perform such other duties as may be required.

Project reporting

This role works under the overall supervision of the Resources Management Officer & Head of Sub Office & the direct supervision of the Logistics Officer & in coordination with the Fleet Management Assistant.

Key competencies
  • Minimum O level education.

  • Valid driving license (B, C or C1 class).

  • At least 3 years continuous driving experience of 6 to 10 wheeler trucks.

  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance & repairs for the truck.

  • Good knowledge of routes within the country.

  • Good knowledge & working experience with HF & VHF radios.

  • Mature individual, able to work independently, paying attention to detail & meeting deadlines.

  • Excellent computer skills, especially in MS Office i.e. Word, Outlook & Excel.

  • Fluency in both written & spoken Portuguese & basic English.

  • Proficiency in English language is advantageous.
